If every time we run into a problem and the younger generation has grown up for the last 20, 30 years knowing only improvements in life, more income, better surroundings, better everything… that’s a problem.

you want an honest answer? try this below…
Republic of Singapore
Attn: Mr Lee Kuan Yew
Prime Minister’s Office
Istana Annexe, Orchard Road, Singapore 238823
Dear Mr. Lee,
I applaud your son’s recent comment on SMRT’s crowded train and SMRT’s diligent move to increase trains schedule. But it is still a pack during non peak hours.
It would be a good opportunity for your son to come and ride on the public buses and MRTs again. Perhaps your son may learn a thing or two on public image, from Taiwan President Ma Ying Jeou by visiting neighbourhood retail shops, to witness another social isssue at hand. This time involving Chinese immigrants.
I no longer think it is a fluke when Chinese people in the service sector serve with a bad attitude.
I no longer think it is abnormal for Chinese people to be loud in public places. I no longer believe that I can live here with that for too long.
I no longer think that it’s funny when an entire section of my BMT platoon consists of Chinese students. I no longer hold much regard for this pink IC, because at the end of the day anyone can get it by serving NS.
Don’t get me wrong, I have no problems with Chinese people. I have a great Chinese buddy from BMT and I wish to visit his hometown some day.
I recognise that Chinese who come over are contributing to the economy. To what limit is there on emphasis on economy and to what extent will the govt bring in these people to artificially boost the economy and the population?
I cannot believe my eyes and my ears each day when I take the public transport everyday. To commoners like us, it is nothing like what you imagine we put up with.
Lee Kuan Yew, this is not just your country. Single-handedly, you have upheaved Singapore culture by banning dialects on television media.
So we should not expect good life?
Didn’t we agree with MM Lee that we need to pay good money to our ministers or our wives and daughters will become maids? I have already paid the ministers those sums via my tax contributions…Can I have my money back? Guess not.
I was told on the 1st day of my conscription that I am serving the nation so it can prosper and thus will lead to the betterment of our lives. Was I being lied to? Can I have my life back? Guess not… Can I stop having reservist liabilities? Guess not…
I thought if we pick opposition, we will get incompetent people in the parliament and the country will collapse and the good life we have come to expect will cease? Can I have my vote back? Guess not… Can I vote the opposition in the next time? Guess.. wait a minute!! Ok, I’ll let you know during the coming GE dear MM Lee…
Anyway.. if I am not supposed to expect good life, then why having opposition in the parliament should not be an issue… for the sum I am paying my ministers, I want to see Dr Chee lay the smackdown on some Ministers I dislike!!
LKY is losing it … the old man is going crazy and spouting nonsense
singaporeans who are able, leave the country now cos there will be chaos after he dies … singaporeans who have to stay, vote for change, vote opposition!!!
Expecting the good life is not the real issue Mr Lee Snr, what is worrying for all Sporeans is to have a PM who still needs you and Goh C T to hold his hands.
When you are gone Mr Lee Snr, it is even more worrying for the PM plus all the stooges you put in place.
he is getting old and sometimes maybe he isnt sensitive to things around him anymore, angering this country and that.
The problem isn’t the young expecting a better existence (not life), and I feel the problem to US ALL , is the PAP administration – you guys, REFUSE to see EYE TO EYE!!!!!
Time, will see you guys into HISTORY!
Just say it. Everybody work hard and pay up. No complains even if you are living hand to mouth. One day we will all enjoy a prosperous life for evenryone. ONE DAY.
Please remember to vote PAP for that one day to come.
Vote opposition, forget about that ONE DAY. It will never come.
Anyone buy this ?
Too me, everytime this old man speaks…
either he is saying something that other have already said way earlier or pointing out the obvious “global org needs to change etc”
or he is contradicting himself in so many ways,,,
“They have not understood how difficult life was when we started and how easy it is to go back to that situation if we do not work together and strive and make this place successful.”
Sorry, i think the people do know…sadly, it is the people at the top, U for example, Who do not understand how difficult people’s life are thanks to your “foresight”
“the country needs an honest and capable government which can think and plan long term. ”
Honest and capable? Mmm…let me take it with a large pinch of salt…think and plan long term? don’t make me laugh….in terms of our current gov, do they think of the long term? or just do something, let the impact hit them and then rush to cover up?
“”Come election time, they talk a lot of things, which is rubbish,” said Mr Lee. “This is a government which chooses its MPs very carefully, test them out before they become ministers, that’s why it is working.”
And yes, the legendary meritocracy…but who are the MPs tested out? i don’t think they are tested by how much they meet the people or what they do for the people…
I want to be very frank with my fellow citizens, the people have given MM Lee such a long good time to run SIN and this spoils him to the extend that he is enjoying more than anybody in Singapore. He can say anything and the peasants are expected to listen well into whatever he dishes and take his words as gospel. He has been believed and over- reverred for far too long by his people, namely: Singaporeans.
Money wise, over the years with senior parliamentarians paid in the multi million SINDollars, MM Lee has no worry over it, maybe worries of losing count may happen.
So, from top to bottom, it seems all Singaporeans are spoilt and the fate of SIN lies in the balance just simply because of this malady.
I wish all good luck.
patriot
Kind of deflecting that it is not due to incompetency and failures of those whos we know who they are when things are not better in all these repects of worsening life enviroments, income , surrounding and even everything which he has sensed and even wary of them – but not wanting the younger generation to complain or that they should not complain at all – otherwise , all are simply seen as nit-picking or problematic liao …….so do not fault them lor……..
sounds like he is more worried about his son would likely be kicked out of his PM job when he kicks the bucket, so now he is starting to create more FEAR factors onto the citizens thinking that singaporeans are still IDIOTS!
At first…we have “the women will be maid if MIW are not in charge” and now we have “A little pain + women becoming maid is good thing as it prevents you from been spoilt”
“If every time we run into a problem and the younger generation has grown up for the last 20, 30 years knowing only improvements in life, more income, better surroundings, better everything… that’s a problem.”
aiyah, i thought we just heard “cheaper, faster & better” quite recently.
aiyah, always so confusing, which side should we listen too.
aiyah, aiiiiiiiyahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ………………………
I thought the son told youngsters ‘Dare to Dream’. Now the father says thats a problem.
What is really a problem is when you already have everything – the whole Spore and still want more from the people. The people have to make sacrifices in order for him to have more, better income, better surroundings, better everything. That to me is the real problem.
i see… so i am supposed to pay our ministers million dollars salaries and make my vote wisely to vote the people into parliament so that I can have a bad life….
hmm….ok…
Singapore has run into a big problem lately, LKY has overstayed his welcome.
Please just leave and make yourself scarce.
Instead of mentoring the younger PAP MPs and minister, LKY has a corrupting influence by setting a bad example of stubbornly clinging on to power.
The problem started when the GRC system was introduced. Today over 90% of the PAP MPs have not been tested and the absenteeism rate of MPs are a disgrace to Singapore’s parliament.
We can’t say much for our mediocre President whose challenger was deemed unfit.
Time to have a level playing field in politics so that Singapore can really have value-for-money MPs, ministers and President.
LKY seems to tell the world what to do! He goes round the world preaching about the word according to LKY.
Me think he thinks he is GOD! He tells you how to live what to eat where to eat how many children to have and when that does not work ous as it has not he does not say he is sorry but he now tells you to go have more children!
Then he tells you what language to speak how to speak it. I believe soon we all have to lear to speak arabic/ hindi/ maybe even afrikanas!
The world will be a betterplace when we stop telling singaporeans and the rest of the world how to live and run their own country. No one appointed you God’s messenger, the last time I check.
When he is no more on this earth then we will see whether the world will heed what you have been saying all this while or they will tell you to take all your preaching with you wherever you may go.
Maybe there will be a place in heaven for you for all that you have done and if we dont find you there maybe you would have set up your own kingdom and you await the rest of your cronies and party memebers to join you there.
But please do stop telling us how to live our lives. Give us a chance to live by our own trials and tribulations that we have to go through by ourselves! Thank you for all that you have done for us but enough is enough !
The old man is now faced between the devil and the deep blue sea situation. He knows that if he change all his useless and incompetent party in cabinet and replace them wih new blood, his party will definately collapse and his son would eventually be kick out of his PM seat. So he’ll have to start all his craps to boo boo the people and confuse them, well at least to slow down the process of collapsing of his party and pray hard for miracle to happen. . . . wait long long then, expect more rediculous things to happen.
Relax, people.
The Old Man is referring to the younger generation of elite leaders, those who are poised to take over the reins of their parents when the latter retire from their current positions.
After all, only this category of people have seen things consistently improving by leaps and bounds for their pleasure. The rest of us lesser mortals are on a roller-coaster ride of our own.
Vote sensibly. Your Last Chance to Squeak.
The top ministers themselves evidently expect ever increasing income, and a cheaper, better populace. Suddenly, such expectations become a problem, when it is the general populace which has them?
If the government cannot deliver, it should engage in self-examination, rather than blame the general populace for their expectations, especially when elsewhere in the MSM, such care has been taken to spread the news of state investments making money, government policies working effectively and of the general soundness of the economy.
Social workers should be paid as much as the doctors, lawyers and the other professionals they could have become.
Dear Harry,
I graduated from NUS in 2006 with 2nd class (lower) honours. I went around looking for a job but couldn’t find one. I gave 2.5 years of my life to my nation but I got nothing back in return. I struggled to find a job for two years. Do you know what TWO YEARS OF CHRONIC UNEMPLOYMENT can do to you? DO YOU KNOW? Let me tell you what it feels like. You lie down at night crying to yourself, wondering if your life is worthless. You stare at the celling, wondering what you’ve done wrong. You look at yourself, comtemplating the reasons why people have jobs and you don’t. You sit up in your bed, and look at your friends moving on ahead while your life remains stationary.
So, don’t tell me that my life has been good. Don’t tell me that I’ve only know improvements in my life. I’m now working as a private tuition teacher and critical thinking is an important part of my lesson. Every lesson, I’ll bring a copy of the ST to class to expose the government’s deceit and lies. I love teaching, but do you know what is even better than teaching? Watching the PAP regime fall.
Yours sincerely,
HECKCARE
‘Mr Lee added that by the next general election due by February 2012, Singapore will see the nucleus of a new generation of leaders who are as able, determined and committed. ‘
This old fart lky always (several times at past elections) talked about a new, capable and committed team to run the country. frankly i haven’t seen one yet. it is always lky who is running around talking rubbish (the barrel will not rise beyond US110- oh by the way it did; this is our golden age – oh by the way, we have lost SGD100billion in investment; immigrants are good for us – oh by the way, our low crime rate has gone up and our umemployment for citizens has gone up) the show. someone should tell him that his new teams so far are figment of his senile imagination.
I believe the old man was misquoted. He must have been referring to the new leaders/MPs who have been parachuted into politics and leadership.
Dear Harry, have you heard of the word senescence? have you heard of the emperor’s new clothes fable?
the truth is: You are old – you are senile; you are surrounded by ‘yes’ men who are telling you that you are young and brilliant.
take a bow; but i have no guarantee that the audiences won’t throw eggs at you. leave the stage. the country is sinking – this country needs capable and committed leaders selected directly by the people for the people, not your present ones nor your future selected ones.
YOU ARE THE PROBLEM YOU SENILE OLD TYRANT!! LIE DOWN AND JUST DIE!!
Grim Reaper,
Please do something even though you aren’t paid millions !
“I believe the old man was misquoted. He must have been referring to the new leaders/MPs who have been parachuted into politics and leadership.”
He is the one who create such system, he is the one who support such system, he is the champion for his own stooge system, he is the one who do the samewise for his son, relative, kin , and Hojinx to give them position in accelerated manner. He is the one for the dirty linen. So how can he be misquoted ?
“If every time we run into a problem and the younger generation has grown up for the last 20, 30 years knowing only improvements in life, more income, better surroundings, better everything… that’s a problem.”
Yes, there is a problem. Actually there are many problems.
One of the problems is that you think improvements are in the form of economics.
Another problem is that you think courage is by silencing critics – (there is more danger to one’s hopes, one’s mettle, one’s pride, in venturing into the battle of ideas, than in murdering a man who disagrees with you, and that doing so therefore takes proportionally much more courage – Greek Philosophy)
Yes there is a problem for your party, which is viewed by many of the younger generation as a party full of bigotry.
What about the problem with the internet? It has create a lot of awareness amongst the younger generation. It has educated and informed the on goings to us about our very own country, or city as your law minister has put it. On goings which constantly go unreported by our “Let’s pat our own backs” national newspapers and that is a true shame.
Yes, the younger generation is expecting more from your party which could be a problem. Although, not better in your version of things. But their versions of things.
And the big problem is, their version of things means that you will have to lose a lot of control over how they think, what they should or should not read and what they should say or not say, you will have to lose control over many things you have been holding dear or think that they are important politically but has been deemed unacceptable by our 21st century generation.
The problem is actually a good problem. The younger generation are paying attention to what their power of vote means and they are asking questions, questions you might not like, and questions that you don’t care. Some questions are good, some are outright bad.. but the good thing is, the people of this country are interested enough to ask questions and hopefully participate earnestly, passionately and as committed as they can afford…
The ruling party that you had fronted either listen or you lose them, these young problematic, ‘don’t know what is good life’ voters.. Or perhaps the ruling party prefers to get their votes from new citizens?
Is that one of the plans? Go on, tell us.
