And if one happens to visit public hospitals, many a time we come across some incidents where poor patients are often subject to some form of public ridicule by those nurses doubling as cashiers. One example I happen to come across was “Your appeal for public assistance will be submitted to the relevant authorities for further approval.

indeed sad but true...when i was diagnosed withy an uncureable long term illness..the doctor concerned bein a nice singapoorium chap asked me why i never visit the government socalled subsidised clinics for treatment...i told him no moner/budget as i am an adhoc worker..good doctor asked me why i don't seek the ^social services^ for assistance...his senoir nurse beside him ^AHEM^..
no she is not infected with the n1h1 virus..she is tryin to tell doctor whta social services is he mubblin...
i replied back politeLEE..do i looked liked or sound liked mrs hairryLEE?

Our Govt is just plain lazy and wrong in using the concept of one's dwelling or whether he/she owns a car to determine whether one deserves any subsidy or not.

There are many families who live in 4 or 5-room flats but never mind that they could be jobless or struggling huge mortgage and car loans. Yet there are many who live in 3-room flats but it's OK to give them subsidy even if they may have designer wardrobes or drives expensive cars. Likewise there are those who have condominiums and houses as home addresses but may only be tenants either renting rooms or residing at the generosity of others. Also there are many people out there who really needs to own a vehicle in order to make a living.

And if one happens to visit public hospitals, many a time we come across some incidents where poor patients are often subject to some form of public ridicule by those nurses doubling as cashiers. One example I happen to come across was "Your appeal for public assistance will be submitted to the relevant authorities for further approval. Please pay first as there are many people waiting". It appears that our welfare schemes would require that any poor applicant must be prepared to lose their pride if they ever dared to ask for public assistance.

Just take the Jobs Credit Scheme, is it alright to help those companies who are already doiing well. It's just like putting money in the pockets of the rich. Is it time that our Govt need to rethink & come up with a more equitable system to provide assistance only to those who really deserves them.

"the issue of Gini, may not so much be the income gap per se, but whether countries with poor Gini, like Singapore, have healthcare polices which truly and effectively make healthcare affordable for lower-income Singaporeans"

Great point -- Likewise welfare schemes, housing, old-age schemes

Hope TOC 3 will explore these issues analytically and unemotionally, cutting out the rhetoric and emotional that turn former fans (self-included) off.
