A CAR believed to be from a foreign embassy was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Bukit Panjang Road early on Tuesday, hitting three people at two different traffic junctions.

Embassy officials have a diplomatic clause that exempt them from any legal action taken against them for any wrong doings in the host country.
Should anyone of the three die from the above accident, it is very interesting to watch
how the Singaporean authorities would act – adhere to previous proclaimations that both locals and foreigners are subject to the same laws in Singapore.
Even if no one dies, how are authorities going to act?
The New Paper announced it was a stolen embassy car – is that true? If so, the driver’s toast! If not, well, I’d be curious to see if any action may be taken. Based on what usually happens to members of foreign consulates who get into criminal issues in New York (alot to do with illegal parking and speeding), just lots of warnings and some kicking out of the country. Not much else in terms of options.
The New Paper says it’s from Romanian Embassy and reported stolen at the time of accident! Either that’s really convenient or I’m too cynical.
Who would want to steal the embassy car? It’s so obvious when the car is running on the road
what a load of BS from the newspaper..singapore is always protect white pricks no matter poor or rich..white is the in colour…
what a pathetic nation..a small SEA nation pretending and aspiring to be part of EU
Let’s hope there will be no cover up.
Car stolen at the time of accident? SURE
You may fool some of us some of the time.
But you can’t fool us all the time.
Don’t take us as convenient idiots.
This is too serious an offence to warrant diplomatic exemption.
If the car belonged to ANY member of the opposition, can you imagine the kind of headlines that will follow?
1st, is the driver local or foreign? what if the driver is found to be a local hired to do the driving?
people, please dun jump to conclusion so soon. dun shoot then ask later.
hmm, you’ll probably not hear of this “event” anymore. complete news blackout. heck, even TR’s page is on 404. hahahahha! international intrigue!
If foreign diplomats were involved in this accident the worst thing could happened to them is to repatriate them back to their country of origin.Look at what happened to those US marine personnel who gang raped local girls in Japan andPhilippines. Not even a court hearing.About 2 yrs ago in Singapore,a US marine who is black walloped a local Singaporean in a multi-stories car park.Anyone has any news about him?I doubted very much.
this is different from US marines, because they are not entitled to immunity unlike embassy staff. so they get away because the country let them.
If they are embassy staff, under international law, they will have diplomatic immunity. So there is nothing anyone can do about them, whether we like it or not.
Anyone remember Micheal P. Fay?

Years ago, my several of my friends was knocked down by a car. Several were bruised but one was serious with factures tha required surgery. The driver came out to look at the suitation but locked his car and ran away in the midst of all the chaos. After the accident, the owner of the vehicle reported that his car was stolen. Police investigation came to a naught and I believed no action was taken. Sound firmilar?
The issue here is to establish who drove the car when it was involved in hitting three people.
If it was an official or a member of the staff of the Romanian Embassy, and assuming this to be the case and the person concerned is sheltered against criminal proceedings using diplomatic immunity, all this person has to do is to tell the police he/she was the driver.
That would clear up all unnecessary speculation or guesswork, and help our police and the relatives of the injured parties as to the options, if any, available to them.
To the guilty party: To act with courage and honesty or with blatant cowardice?
the police knew what’s behind all this all the time, that’s why they are confident to tell the newspaper a lost report has been made prior before the car was stolen. i think this is very much a standard template in the event a diplomat is involved in an accident or a crime. in this case, i dont think the police expect the victim to die. let’s see how the story unfolds… and then we vote with our heads in the next general election. remember, the victim could be our loved ones too.
It was so sad as the man died after he had just married.T.T
