[If] I were in the opposition, I would rather be in Singapore than in any other Asian “democracy”. Life is unfair, but I daresay I would rather be sued for defamation than shot in the head.

  1. i think places where you are shot in the head, the bad government is going to change very sooner or later.

like iraq or the recent phillipine clan.

at places where there is no shoot in the head, if the government is not good, i am not sure when things will change cannot see the horizon.

at the end of the day there is good and bad at every place.

hope that everyone is safe, healthy and happy if possible.

This Fredric Fanthome has zero capacity to emphatise and feel for the plight of others, now you know why they need to create a wolf site just to make up for the shortfall, P65 is just a decoy imho,, there is one particular entry somewhere near the end that really broke my heart when I read it and he was given a right and proper tongue lashing by some uncle, sad when people have no heart, sad when there are even sites out there these days who are so morally bankrupt they will stoop to any level just to boost their readership. That is one thing that I think all tockers can be really proud of, it was build on trust and not on wolf cries.

First, we compare to the swiss, then the economy turn and we compare ourselves to some 3rd world country saying that at least we still got food to eat, then now, we are comparing our 1st world status to some murderous regime!

So how low do we want to go?

I daresay the public would rather see the politicians come out to debate in public instead of suing each other for defamation.

Of course Mr Fanthome would rather be in the opposition in Singapore than anywhere else, because he doesn’t even know what the opposition is about. He thinks the opposition is all about being opposed to the government, and it’s better to do it . All he looks for in standing in the opposition is to preserve his miserable skin, and not anything else. Such a fallacious question is utterly moot. The overriding concern of why anyone would be in the opposition is their love of their own country calling them to expose the lies and hypocrisies of the ruling elite, and not about living a happy life.

And funny thing is, do you get shot in the head in South Korea? Japan? or maybe Taiwan? This is utterly ridiculous. If the PAP and their lackeys are to be believed, we must be the only democracy who hates democracy. The irony!

Without debate, there wouldn’t be a need to answer to the public. Without the need to answer to the public, we have nonsense policies like outrageous pay to prevent corruption.

TOC should not drive traffic to the p65 blog, I want to see them die out. Remember the Bloggers Association?

Wow… you know, Singapore seems to be one of the few places where the defenders of its current system keep using established bad examples as yardsticks against which to measure itself.

To think this guy actually used the inverted commas for democracy without the slightest awareness of the irony involved. Too bad we don’t have our own version of John Steward, or he would have a field day.

To be fair, occasionally this does happen in above-mentioned democracies, especially when it involves mafia and the far-right in Japan.

No matter how suspicious the timing, Ah Bian was shot. Hey we even got a PAP MP who was set ablaze. As much as everyone would like to joke about our political enemies, I believe we must speak out against political violence even if it is to our “benefit”. Instead of setting that guy ablaze, throwing rotten eggs etc will serve the same purpose, although one must be prepared to go to jail for assault.

As I told activist friend few mths ago, here is gd life.

Shout you are activist and you get perks from int’l leftish organistions. Can go Hawaii for seminar, Budapest for training, that kind of thing.

My activist friend taunts me my telling me of all his great overses trips.

And you juz have to be careful on defamation. In other Asean countries, can get shot. I mean JBJ died peacefully in his bed. And despite advocating regime change by USA, AG drops charges against Gandhi Chee. And Chiam is still around.

I mean activists no longer even get locked up.

Not to mention irrational, badly thought out policies and incompetence in general.

Lets be honest here – everyone has their own ideas on how to a country or city should be run. Democracy is the marketplace of ideas and should not be relegated to political mudslinging taking precedence over everything else. Fortunately in Singapore we have not stooped to such levels…yet.

“All he looks for in standing in the opposition is to preserve his miserable skin, and not anything else”

That description is more apt for the PAP, not just preserving their skins but their multi-million salaries as well.

Mr Fanthome is NOT an opposition supporter, I dont know how Mr Young01 comes to that conclusion.

So do ELECTED officials in neighboring countries from fellow left-wing ideologues, DURING their tenure. Not good life?

“And despite advocating regime change by USA, AG drops charges against Gandhi Chee. ”

If USA wanted a regime change, we would already have it. Please reproduce statements from CSJ and Mr Gandhi that they wanted aforementioned regime change.

One, political strength prosper from the barrel of the gun!

Two, not worry and frighten that you are rich, vice versa, only worry and frighten that you are poor.

So, it is obvious, who will gun who down, wake-up and stop talking non-sense, utter rubbish!

Ω李, I did not at all say or imply that Fanthome was in the opposition. Please do not shove words into my mouth. If you read the rest of my comment, it would be clear that I had no such impression. I said this because he wanted to make it seem as though the opposition had to be thankful for not being threatening with death as from his “perspective” of an opposition member, so I duly extended his utterly invalid comparison to absurdity.

We complain about politics, they compare with dictatorships.

We complain about public transport, they compare with India.

What next? If economy collapse and people start dying from starvation, are they going to compare with Africa and say we have a lower starvation percentage?

I thought that Singaporeans are always taught to be competitive and compare with the best so we can improve? How come now always comparing with the worst?

no wonder most asians would love to migrate to western countries if possible and if not possible come to singapore.

Both ‘shot in the head” or “sued for defamation” are not something that are endeared, just that the latter happens to the best of the worst if not given much choice.

Frederic is just one of the many dogs blogging the ruling party’s position and stance. Singapore is already a developed city, we need to compare ourselves to one, like they always compare to the likes of Japan, UK and US not Philippines or Indonesia.

His arguments are flawed and when I browsed P65, I had instant headache by looking at all the negative posts on P65, they are just overwhelming. I wonder if Frederic and his team receive any form of FOC counselling from IMH.

I think as the population becomes better educated, they want to be heard, they want to be fair. And by continuing to implement undemocractic processes and decisions, the public anger is getting out of hand.
