Come 9 January 2010, dozens of Indian youths will speed across Singapore in an ‘Amazing Race’-style contest, all in the name of active and healthy living.

The event, entitled ‘Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu’ (Tamil for ‘Hunt and Play’), will involve teams of four testing their collective wit and fitness in a bid to come first in the race.

Starting off from the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), participants will follow clues to various checkpoints around the island and tackle challenges at each location. The top three teams stand to win cash prizes of up to $1000.

The SIM Indian Cultural Club, who are organising the race, hope that the challenge of the competition would help educate Indian youth about the importance of having an active and healthy lifestyle.

Now in its third edition, Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu is open to Indian youths aged 16 to 25. They must currently be studying at post-secondary institutions, such as junior colleges, polytechnics, ITEs or universities (other than SIM).

Each team will be charged a registration fee of $40, although members need not necessarily be from the same institution.
