I was surprised that a shrewd leadership like the PAP could come up with a ruling that … exposes an insecurity that must make even its supporters wonder about how strong, after more than four decades of leadership, the bond between the Government and the people really is.

I feel that they read the people like the back of their hands.
They are confident the people will continue to vote for them regardless all the things they done or implemented.
That is why they keep winning by ‘landslide’ victories.
I like to volunteer to count the votes can? how har?
A few weeks ago, the Straits Times reported that except for the Media, no politicians can comment on political news.
But the problem is, the Media is owned by PAP and Dr Tony Tan. If there is fairness, the ruling gov should ban the Media for slandering too. The Media at every election will surely publish news article on how much PAP had done for the country etc, to bring in votes and to create fear.
According to psychologists, 50% of the people r weak willed and can be mind control. That is why kingartens have a PAP logo and when these weak willed children grew up, they have the lightning impression in their innermost minds and thus will unconsciously voted for the PAP. This is a sublime and psychology method of mind control.
Pre schools shouldnt hang any Party Logo to be fair. But then, we r dealing with one of the most powerful criminal minds in the world, that wants to control the entire country.
Kudos to all the strong willed mind that can see the damage of the PAP policies that is harming the citizens.
A cowardice act!…….Sign of insecurity!
Will resort to immoral tactics to fix the opposition.
Power greedy bunch of corrupted gangsters!!!
STAY FOCUS AND VOTE OUT PAP…….Period!!
“I was surprised that a shrewd leadership like the PAP could come up with a ruling that first, is of doubtful value and could even backfire;” – Catherine Lim
In the case of “backfire”, it is to the advantage of opposition!!
why should it be any surprise. if anyone should have any surprise, it should not be a surprise that it is a feigned one. we have seen it all in our 40+ years, all of this wayang ruling has already been internalized (u just know it without them needing to say it out) and it is just one more.
No doubt, desperate men resorting to desperate measures.
The manner in which a person competes and the strategies employed to win, says a lot for what he/she stands for.
In Japan, the PAPies would be overwhelmingly viewed as self-serving, ego-centric, no sense of honour, no sense of fairplay, no sense of accountability, no sense of shame, greedy and not least, despicable examples of cowardice.
That is why after 44 years and even 440 years later, Spore can never be a nation
with MIW at the helm.
It is therefore imperative to use the vote to put the MIW out of business.
Their insecurity may be exposed, but with so many rediculous proposals such as “Cooling off”, I wonder if they impose themselves immunity for all “crimes/honest mistakes” they have done?
The PAPaya ( political TERRORIST )…are the most DESPICABLE animals that ever existed!!!! hijack our CPF $$$, squeeze every cents from us, treat us like slave, dump us when old, replace us with foreign trash, rob us by paying themselves Millions$$, throwing Billions$$$ away from their reckless gambling, sue and jail those who speak out against their policies. lies and deceive the people.
It would be a double-slap and a punch when PAP loses more seats and percentage after the cooling off day.
So people, do remember to give it to them. Slap their face, those Millionaire Minsters and their cronies/relatives.
..they can Cool Off all they want…
all the damages have already been done (& still doing..), people are SORE TO THE BONE!
But still they delude themselves that they’re well liked by many.
Go ahead… Cool Off for however LONG you want… and lets see how much better you will do.
its a shame that the pap government didn’t recruit me liked the mossads
or else i could have blown their as ses off with a fire rocket cracker
Contributor to the Star newspaper shared his views on the Cooling Off day for a singaporeans who are by and large Apathetic.
Is there a need to have cooling off when the population are presumably the most tamed in the world ? Would that be OverKill? Would that be necessary?
why was it set to be implemented?
Seah Chiang Nee’s take on Cooling off :
http://www.littlespeck.com/content/politics/CTrendsPolitics-091212.htm
they need a cooling period because they can’t soften the ground enough. they are dragging their feet on holding election in hope there is enough “success” to trumpet to the electorate.
aiyah, our dear leaders not confident lah. most of them know they are not worth their salary so if going to loose just drag lah, each month see CPF feel very rich, so if kenna vote out got “a few” more $$$ (squeeze from taxpayers).
wow, these talents said to be non-mediocre wor.
so, how much growth this year?
non-mediocre?
wow, if salary did not hike to world record level last time, now how?
so, if hypothetically speaking this year performance estimated to between 3%-5% growth, would the performance improve to between 6%-10% if double their salary, that is, break the world record which is their record and then double their salaries?
super non-mediocre?
like this good or not?
How many condos present MND minister has and say a bungalow too here in SINK aPOOR? How about former MND minister LHK now in PMO as T & I minister? Etc etc.
now you know why old man and MND minister always say HDB property prices must always rise for ‘assest’ enhancement – But FOR WHO hor? As isn’t it common sense that with only one HDB flat, esp only 3-Rm of smaller, what’s the damn use of it higher price? Think MBT who said “If old and Money No Enough, just downgrade lor” so simple ah? Future how if still got 30 yrs or more life left?
And then what about overseas properties they each own too (sic)? Like in California perhaps (sic)? Hee-Haw!!!
They need cooling off to slander the opposition to swing enough votes to their side. In any election, there always a huge group of ppl that is undecided and on the next day, will buy the newspaper and read the PAP views..and then they will vote for PAP LOL!~~~~~
In fact, the cooling off period may be at least 44 hours. If the campaigning stops at 12 noon and the polling centre opens the day after tomorrow, the cooling off is more than a day i.e.24 hours
Just wonder how many skeletons are there from the closet before the GE.
Losses reported by GIC and Temasek may not see the end of the tunnel yet, is that why the PAP needs
a cooling off day before we vote? People are upset over the periodical reports
of losses suffered by investments of public funds, it seems never ending.
We are upset to read about them from the foreign (and not the local Press ),months before our ST reported them.
Its not use lah. Majority support them.
Last 2 elections, also numerous issues of concern prompting people the need for greater transparency. No use lah. They somehow continue to vote for them.
There should be no difference this time.
Minority’s fate lies in the Majority.
There is no surprise at all. If they have their way, they will do away with the election all together..
1 way to have eternity is not to have election. But this is technically speaking which need not make practical sense not that it must be impractical, just need not have to be, meaning can be or cannot be or some say maybe, whichever it maybe , heee heee.
Erection Day, of course head hot !
Cooling is useless, what must come out , have to go !
I don’t understand why she’s surprised.
It’s not at all surprising that she is “surprised”. It’s time that people like Catherine Lim wakeup from their long slumber and see the reality on the ground. Don‘t confine yourselves to the ivory tower of complacency and assume everything is hunky-dory.
“The battle is not just with the PAP, but with what the PAP has done to our minds.”
I wrote this letter to The Straits Times [Forum] on 16 Jan 2010:
“Dear Sir,
I refer to the letter from Dr Catherine Lim, “Surprised by ‘cooling off’ idea” [ST Jan 13] and the response from Dr Yik Keng Yong, “It’s a sound policy” [ST Jan 14].
I agree with the points raised by Dr Lim and consider Dr Yik as the one with a jaundiced view of the PAP’s intentions and of Dr Lim’s comments, and the one making comments that appear unrepresentative of the situation at ground level.
First, a 24 hr cooling period before Polling Day is an idea that only a political party such as the PAP is capable of. If Dr Yik thinks that such a policy is sound and should be applied not only to voting practice but also in our daily routine, has it ever occurred to him to ascertain why it was not introduced in prior elections which have been held every 4 years for the last 50 years? Why only now? Having been voted into power in the past – in the absence of a cooling period – is the PAP now afraid that it will be voted out, on emotional grounds, if a cooling period is not introduced? If so, it cannot be considered as rational thinking.
A cooling period will make no difference if people have already decided which candidate/party they want in. Moreover, it can be argued that it is not a question of having a day of calm reflections to help one think rationally before casting one’s vote. Whether the government has performed to people’s expectations is a far more important criterion, and one does not need a cooling period of 24 hrs to know or decide whether the government has performed to expectations or not. With support from people like Dr Yik, the PAP should have no fear of being knocked out of the competition. It may lose its shirt but not its pants.
To quote Dr Yik’s opening line: Dr Catherine Lim’s interpretation yesterday [“Surprised by ‘cooling off’ idea”] of the People’s Action Party’s [PAP] announcement of a 24-hr cooling-off period before Polling Day is as striking in its perspicuity as it is jaundiced of the PAP’s intentions. If Dr Lim is perspicuous with her interpretation, then it would be contradictory or inconsistent to accuse her of having a jaundiced view of others.
Sorry, Dr Yik, you are the one who is jaundiced, not Dr Lim.”
Evidently, The Straits Times editor for publication of letters in the forum page, has thought “right of reply” is only for the papies.
