“To be certain, it has been a struggle financially. We live in a three-room flat. We don’t go overseas for costly holidays, and we don’t buy each other expensive gifts. We eat simple meals and don’t dine in fine restaurants. I don’t play golf or indulge in expensive hobbies, my only recreation is my morning jogs.”

Struggles on the street has been outlawed 5 decades ago; anyway of doing your struggles and demonstration on the cyberspace, probably should call it “Cyber Demonstrations” and wonder whether the ISD and Pappys can find a way to outbeat it.
How many Sinkees are willing to sacrifice so much for the greater good? And the biggest irony of all? The people Dr Chee fights for are largely unappreciative of his personal struggles.
But you what’s even more beautiful than that? He knows that they are unappreciative, but he keeps at it.
The people are brainwashed by the government owned and controlled local media and that is why they have such impressions. The people are not to be blamed, it is the government which created a media monopoly and misled them to have such views.
Just look at TOC’s mandatory death penalty video series. Heartlanders don’t know what mandatory is! If there was a single independent newspaper in Singapore, it would at least publish a decent explanation of the issue and the 2 sides to it.
@ angry_one
can anyone really blame the average “Sinkee”, or should we blame the mass media and how biased it is? or the provision that enables the ISD to jail people for an indefinite period of time?
Asia Times Online :: Southeast Asia news – Singaporean cyber-dissident speaks his mind
Ex-political prisoner speaks out in Singapore
how to blame the Singaporeans?
the average Singaporean does not know the history of LKY other than what is published in the MSM (which praises him like he’s God). from there, opinions were formed.
and, i think that the average Singaporean thinks that CSJ is crazy.
hey pple, there is gonna be a BBC commentary next Monday at 11.00am on detention without trial and habeas corpus (right to attorney).
i wonder if Singapore will be given the top spot for detaining her own citizens under ISA… good international publicity for Singapore, courtesy of PAP
Singaporeans are up against a behemoth of a machinery all these years. Many will be influenced incorrectly due to ignorance and fear.
However, a growing number do see and appreciate courageous oppositions like CSJ and his family & followers. The MIW use money to buy followers. How many idealistic Singaporeans will not want a $13,000 monthly salary just to wear a bra, sleep in parliament and jump around like a deaf frog with 2 legs. Go figure.
Much as one may applaud the bravado of CSJ, he has not prepared himself well to fight LKY and his mates. Long years have since past and he has been all but crippled including part of his credibility.
To fight the PAP you need to understand them as an opponent; a very powerful one with the whole state machinery behind them. They are hard to remove by any constitutional means but there are already many cracks in their edifice. The simmering anger, frustrations and explosive need to be rid of LKY’s chains by young and old Singaporeans is one.
The risk is that any change of government wouldn’t be by pretty means since the electoral system is rigged to ensure the PAP is always voted in. The question is whether this risk is worth taking and the answer must be yes. Otherwise this nation of slaves and master would continue. History has shown that slaves take a long time to throw of their yokes. However there are enough intelligent men other than those in the PAP to run Singapore. The crux is whether there is a brave and clever enough one to lead and topple the PAP. The PAP is not looking out for the CSJs bcause they are easy to demolish; they are looking out for another LKY not within their midst!
We just need to continue chipping away at the pap mountain, vote for opposition..
Sorry, I don’t symphatize with the Chees. In his mind, he is working for Singapore democracy but to my mind he has not been a constructive force in Singapore politics. The sight of him shouting at Goh finally made me gave up on him. But all along the signs were there: the ridiculous accusations about the $5b loan to Indonesia, the inflation statistics and reluactance to apologize for what is plainly a significant mistake, the role he played in drumming up protests against Goh at Williams College (fight at home , don’t bring in foreigners), etc, etc. It’s a small price, what he is paying compared to those who were willing to risk all fighting the colonial masters.
@Taneug
And where are they now; those who risk all to fight the colonial masters? Gone and left the prime collaborator with the British, the only master around, LKY!
Is it worth it? Perhaps; depends on who you ask.
@Taneug
“It’s a small price, what he is paying compared to those who were willing to risk all fighting the colonial masters.”
I urge you to go read more about the other side of history. You won’t know the truth if you only care to read the PAP side!
A Must Read from Ms Yew Lun Tian’s facebook comment:
[Seelan Palay]
Here is an example of the extent to which the local media can go to during elections:
Dr Chee and Goh Chok Tong
What actually transpired at the scene was very different from what eventually appeared on TV. Gandhi Ambalam and Chee Siok Chin were there at the coffeeshop with Dr Chee, and the incident didn’t appear to them as anything of tremendous implication then – until it was presented on TV in a concerted effort of negativity…. See more
Many different scenes of an unflattering Dr Chee (for example, talking with his fist raised up high on the rally stage) were put together and shown repeatedly to present such an image. For example, him holding a loud hailer on the campaign truck was also edited [into it] together with the GCT coffeeshop scene, yet nobody actually questioned why CSJ was using a loudhailer at the coffeeshop at all.
Predictably, what most people perceived was that Dr Chee was using a loud hailer to shout and chase after GCT. The news got twisted from that footage to a point that my friend’s mother asked if Dr Chee threw a bottle of water at Mr Goh.
So yes, let’s engage the media. But let’s be careful as well, and I believe even Lun Tian would agree with me on that point.
Hey, so do I. -.-
Its amazing that so many Sinkapooreans believe in the distorted image portrayed by the PAP controlled press.
All those who view him as a clown and a buffoon should meet him and speak with him before judging him through the lenses of MediaCorpse.
History will judge if CSJ’s sacrifices are worth it. The many SDP supporters is proof that many can see through the machinery of state brought to bear on him. Like JBJ before him, CSJ’s fight will unite Sinkapooreans. No dictatorship lasts forever. The last dowager empress of china wouldnt die, and when she did, not only did the dynasty end, but 5000 years of imperial system.
So will the PAP system die when LKY reluctantly gives up his last breath. The PA, ISA, Istana Grand Palace, Cronyism, bloated pensions, multi million dollar salaries. That day will come sooner than we think. Tony is seeking his last opportunity to grab at the millions waiting for him while Nathan is thrilled to have collected 12 years of millionairedom. Kee Chiu is waiting his turn. So is Tin Pei Ling. Mah Bow Tan and Wong Kan Seng are happily hugging their millions.
