Must they wait until our productivity reach two to three per cent?”

How about the government produce more concrete RESULTS, be PROACTIVE instead of reactive, do more work & remain HONEST with a decrease in Ministerial Salaries???
How about this for a CHANGE in mindset?? We have been taking cuts, changes, & adaptations – what have you as government adapted to?
JUST RHETORIC by low
If low wage workers can do difficult, demanding, complicated work productivity, then they will receive very good pay.
R U an idiot ludwig? Are you suggesting that it is alright for poorly skilled to remain poor while the PAP Government increase fees, taxes on them. That is what you are suggesting.
Mr. Low is merely making a point that rising tide should lift all ships. Without a minimum salary, the poor are going to be the most affected, regardless of productivity gains.
Rhetoric – that’s the department of the PAP, if you have not noticed. Blanket statements that says nothing new, non-accoutable, not-measurable.
It seems that the government when formulating policies like, letting in foreign students, more foreign workers in etc, they do not consider the social impact on locals. My feeling is this, they deliberately let the locals fend for themselves by competing directly with the consequences of these policies. What brings to mind , at the turn of the 19th century. We have alot of migrants from China, India coming here, but at the same time the colonial masters were also bringing their own kind to run the country as “foreign talents” . This over the years created a class division, as what is happening now, high price of HDB flats, cost of living etc cause by the foreign talents. Without thinking of the social consequences of their policies, society has basically regressed and now they are fighting fire with fire. Very typical of our government these days or rather today. What I think is , the policy makers are themselves very elitist coming usually from the higher reaches of society. And these people don’t have a clue or empathise with the ground, basically their upbringing cuts them off from the ground. Raising the levy is not going to help. Basically they have not thought of the social and partly economic consequences of such a policy. Wages will not rise as business cost go up, because local companies now have to employ locals and hence posibility of business closing down or moving else where. I think its not the fault that we have a low level of productivity, it is government policies that have cause our lives to be very difficult to live, some thoughts.
Just imagine if they were more opposition MPs in parliament. The motion would have been debated more aggrasively and we the people would have benefited from a better policy, rather than just being told anyone else the two opposition suggest now will not work. The ruling party refuses to accept it has made major blunders which as resulted in the present state of low wages, declining population, cheap foriegn labour, affordable firt world home prices, widening income gap and the world top 20 best paid politicians, who can do anything without being answerable to anyone.
To see changes, we need to vote pap out. PERIOD. No amount of complaining/reasoning will get thro’ to the elitists’ thick skull.. We need a new govt so that these people will no longer get safety nets.
Allow me to digress from foreign workers to foreign influx by way of new citizens.
This islands is small enough.
The economy is bad enough.
People are suffering more than ever.
Roads and streets and malls and MRTs and buses are congested with people, many foreigners or new citizens.
In the crisis jobs were scarce, even now. Yet, they allowed so many in during the crisis.
Shortage of jobs and still allowed so many in.
The problem gets worse when a small market like sg , you increase the citizen populace by so much within so short time (about since last election result announced).
Don’t smart singaporeans see the problem i see?
small market. tiny place. jobs scarce. financial crisis comes faster than the one before and impact bigger than before. unpredicatable and unstoppable where hindsight is always 20/20. We are getting older every year. like it or not, gnerally, age plays a part in employment. My question is :
Can the singapore government please confirm CAN YOU ASSURE THE PEOPLE ENOUGH JOBS CAN BE PROVIDED WITH THE POPULATION EXPLOSION considering the next financial crisis could be bigger and companies have relocated to better places to do business? what is your solution?
it’s all in the eye of bosses!my work with this small size enterprise was almost one leg kick, but when they start to employ china worker(1),that fella only have to run his own machine, what foreign worker more productive?
free market.
cheaper, tougher and hungrier players coming into the marketplace, that’s all.
if only we know economics.
s’pore is not a robinson crusoe on the planet.
s’pore can’t do anything without taking into consideration externalities.
the world is so interconnected economically.
sorri to read stupidity from bloggers.
when talking about wages, i think about jobs.
with record influx of foreigners (eg. PRs) and new citizens, i wonder , when the next financial crisis, which will come, how many jobs need to be created in order to sustain the new population?
i have news for citizens: the record number of new citizen means so much more jobs need to be created. Else, it becomes “too many monks, too few congee”, for lack of a better phrase. *New citizens cannot be get rid of like PR foreigners and non PR foreigners*
My question to the PAP : can you assure the people you can create so many MORE jobs?
My challenge to the Citizens of singapore is do you understand what i am saying?
