Sorry but I've seen the way drugs are sold openly without fear of punishment countries which don't practice the MDP for drug traffickers and i am thankful that Singapore has the MDP. There is a reason why we don't have drug lords openly "ruling" neighbourhoods, and that reason is the MDP.

Even in the dark ages...the Emperor or Dictator when he says :"Off with his head" actually has the discretion to "sentence" or not toe "sentence"....

To deny this fundamental right to the sentencing judge is not only barbaric but also a complete disregard for the honourable judge's ability to be a Judge.

I wonder how many of the Judges who had to "sentence" people to MDP live without regret and have a clear conscience.

Human beings learn by consequence. If you don't get lung cancer, you will continue smoking... If there is no MDP, they continue trafficking... and who suffers? the one who is introduced to drugs (usually uneducated and foolish) and get a lifetime sentence of drug addiction dragging along with him/her the whole family into the suffering.
MDP is like choosing the lesser of 2 evils. "kill" the nation with drug addicts lingin our streets? or kill the top perpertrator.
Its like allowing prostitution when these activities can cause HIV, AIDS, broken marriages, abortions... but its better to have these men at the brothels then on the streets raping your wife, sister or daughter because of lack of self control...
The judge has a difficult job. Everyone comes to him from different perspectives...

Although the death penalty does seem cruel, I like to live under the fact to know that the streets of Singapore are clean, and that my wife and kids are able to party out into the wee hours and not getting hurt.
On the contrary, if the death penalty were to be exchanged for a life sentence, such a maximum security prison would be a high cost for a small city state like Singapore. And by then, perhaps netizens might comment on other things -- rising taxes, lower pension, high cost of maximum security prison maintenance etc.
Just a thought; the government lets the prisoner choose: Dealth penalty, or being sold to private prison facilities, and take the capital punishment off their hands. What say you?

I fully agree with Prof Hor’s balanced views. ... a moratorium on the death penalty is appropriate.
I agree that the Prof's view were balanced. However, I am not sure if he was in favour for a moratorium. Did you read his questions at the end of that answer?

Sgreans who unthinkingly accept PAP views and support death penalty are murderers themselves.
ANYONE who unthinkingly accepts any view are idiots. That includes people who opposed the DP simply because it looks to be the 'right' thing to do, without thinking why it is the 'right' thing.

p.s what about people who 'thinkingly' support DP without caring one iota of PAP's views? What do you classify them as?

I fully agree with Prof Hor's balanced views. Lives are at stake and the government should not take too long to consider this life and death issue. But knowing how busy our ministers are, a moratorium on the death penalty is appropriate.
