Yes, I remember the days when they were trying to "re-monopolise" the media. I think the phrase was, "The Market is TOO SMALL for competition."

The reason was simple, SPH and MediaCorp had to fight for ad revenue instead of dividing the spoils amongst themselves. Unfortunately the government bought their argument that it was necessary for them to make manopolistic profits.

What everyone failed to realise was that competition was not about helping SPH and MediaCorp but giving the consumer a choice - but then again that's the point isn't it - to make sure that the voter...oooppps, I mean the consumer has no choice.

I believe the technical term for such behaviour is circlejerk.

Or possibly auto-erotic asphyxiation, I don't know.

I've cancelled my ST subscription for more than 5 years now because I feel that one should not pay for propaganda. Apparently I am not the only one feeling that way, which is why there is free propaganda for the masses in the form of the free newspaper distirbuted everyday.

Reading ST nowadays is like reading a sugar coated tabloid from sweet Pleasantville. Everything's nice and rosy and totally devoid of critical reports with substance. The journalists have certainly lost touch with what's happening on the ground, very much like their "masters".
