A youth-led, youth-oriented campaign is being launched in Singapore, celebrating life and second chances.
Damien Chng and I (Kirsten Han) are currently working on a campaign targeting the youths of Singapore which will tie in with the campaign to save Yong Vui Kong, the 22-year-old boy on death row.
We want to focus on being young, enjoying life and being allowed to try again when we fail. We believe that just as we all have made mistakes and been forgiven, Vui Kong too should also have a second chance.
You can read more about Yong Vui Kong here: http://savevuikong.blogspot.com/p/yong-vui-kongs-journey.html
We are now on the lookout for young people – who believe that Vui Kong should be given a second chance – to get involved with campaign.
We are also going to shoot a campaign video to raise awareness and get the ball rolling. We are looking for bands, breakdancers, artists, skateboarders, athletes, cheerleaders, etc. to feature in this short campaign video. We hope to shoot this video sometime in the week of 30 August – 5 September.
We also welcome any other youths who would like to help out with this campaign.
If you would like to get involved, or if you would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to get in touch either by Facebook message, direct messaging on Twitter (@kixes), email (han.kirstenly@yahoo.com) or via my blog (http://kixes.wordpress.com/). [I’m an Internet junkie so you can say that I am super-contactable.]
Please get in touch if you would like to be involved, and please share this message via any means you can (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, bebo, blogs, SMS, etc. etc.)
- Cheers, Kirsten

Way to go, Kirsten and Damien.
With people like you, there is hope for the future generation.
I do not know Vui Kong but am now feeling the pain for his family. I can imagine what it’s like knowing that your Son, Brother is so young and healthy now awaiting to be killed and there is nothing they can do to save him.
As a Catholic, I am doing an urgent prayer to Saint Jude Thaddeus, the patron Saint for hopeless cases. I am sure many people of other religions are doing their prayer too.
Kirsten and Damien, I am very proud of ya!
When Yong Vui Kong decided to smuggle drug for his own personal gain, did he think of giving other people a chance ?? I am for 2nd chance if the mistake committed is unintentional but for premeditated and selfish transgression like drug trafficking, I don’t think Yong deserves it. He knows very well the harm to others and consequeneces to his action and but he he made his choice to do it. Singapore will be in big trouble if we allow this precedence.
Terence, instead of pouring scorn on people doing actual work to organise campaign to raise awareness and save lives, why not join the anti death penalty campaign in Singapore Or even the anti mandatory death penalty campaign?
Then you will understand the difficulties that activists face in both Singapore and Malaysia. Remember, it is state laws that we are going against, and it takes a great amount of work to be able to sway people to believe that executing drug traffickers is wrong. There is a reason why Europe has abolished the death penalty entirely.
In the call for abolishment and getting public support, how many people are going to be swayed by hardened criminals? And if people can’t be swayed, how is abolishment going to take place to save more Singaporeans/Malaysians from getting executed?

peddling drugs is not “failing”
so you are asking YVK to be given a 2nd chance so he can peddle in again
@michael tan
We are not asking Yong Vui Kong to be acquitted or released. We are asking for his death sentence to be commuted to life imprisonment, so I doubt he would be able to “peddle in again”.
@kixes
I applaud your selfless work in trying to help Yong Vui Kong. what you are doing definitely shows the good hearts of Singaporeans =]] keep up the good work
This is a brilliant idea & a necessary campaign. Malaysia needs this too. Its always the young who try and change the world,and the cynical establishment folk will rush out to try and keep things as they were.
In the run up to NDP-2010, there were many propagating of past speeches by LKY concerning what it takes for good political leadership to be.
A summary of his statement was that a good political leader must have the intellect to create ideas, and the ability to translate these intellectual ideas to be accepted by the citizens, organise their support through activism.
A good political leader must have the characteristics of an ACTIVIST.
To all the young Singaporeans – you are standing on solid ground, and Singapore has hope with more Activists around.
Keep up the good work, we are human, we need to save human life.. Cheers
He already had one second chance too many, since he committed the same offence (that each warrants a death penalty) for at least five times. That’s a serial drug trafficker in my book.
