Former AWARE president and current president of human rights NGO MARUAH Braema Mathi will speak at The Online Citizen’s Budget Forum 2011. She will replace Mr Tan Kin Lian who has to turn down our invitation due to other commitments.
Ms Mathi will be speaking on behalf of AWARE on the need to bring women’s perspective to the Singapore Budget.
We apologize for the late change of plans.

I cannot describe the three speakers slated for this forum as “academics”. However, I can feel assured that they are very academically-inclined individuals.
Their role in the discussions of the Budget is very important, especially since the SDP has just unveiled its own alternative to the PAP’s budget and which has created quite a stir.
Academics and the academically-inclined are important players in the democratic process because, with the academic discipline imposed on them, they do tend towards being unbiased. (Though, we should always remain alert to biases displayed by academics and the academically-inclined; they are not exempt from the same influences that we are.)
With the bias free approach – in theory at least – that they bring into discussions of the public interest, they tend to also play the important role of being a check and balance against political bias.
This forum is a welcome addition to the discussion.
Kudos, TOC, once again for this initiative.
But why didn’t you called this “F2F: Budget 2011″ instead?
Bravo, TOC, for ability to arrange another Forum. Since Govt insisted that TOC is a political association, then may as well go fully political, and go as fully as political as possible. This does not mean we agree with our Govt’s
biased classification of TOC as one, while sparing SPH.
