The Online Citizen learnt today that former ISA(Internal Security Act) detainee Teo Soh Lung had resigned from the Reform Party.
Ms Teo, who joined last December, was believed to have left shortly after Tan Tee Seng, another former ISA detainee and former chairman of the party resigned on 25th February.
Ms Teo, together with Mr Tan, were arrested by the government in 1987 as part of a group of 22 alleged “Marxist conspirators”. She had published a book “Beyond The Blue Gate‘ which documented the time she spent in detention. She was also the founder member of Function 8, and a strong advocate for the abolishment of the ISA.
Ms Teo’s resignation is the latest in the exodus of RP members from the party since last week. At least 20 members were confirmed by party insiders to have left.
Ms Teo declined to comment.

Wise choice on her part to decline comment. Any comment by her would only add oil to fire and hurt the Oppo.
Aiyoyo RP can close shop liao….
Aww man. I don’t want another five years of PAP.
Take it as party renewal process. Those people who left actually spell something good for RP. If you cannot gel with the party leader, no point making a mess out of it. Find your own niche, find your suitable party culture where you think you can unite and contribute positively making it a home and not a hotel.
It is disgusting to see a party set up with a cause is left with almost nothing left of the origin only because it is publicly allowed to be treated like a property, an estate that can be inherited from fathers to sons or husbands to wives. While RPs Vision and Belief claim no tolerance of Eugenics of any disguise (see last line here http://www.thereformparty.net/en/our-platform/ourvisionandbeliefs) the retention of family legacy as authorisation to lead obviously is contrary to claim.
鸡蛋碰石头。It was wise that they left.
鸡蛋碰石头。It was wise that they left despite of having goodwill to Singaporeans.
while im totally surprised on the other potential candidate members leaving, i dnt think anyone should be surprised of these ex-ISA detainees leaving.
first, they could have joined the party due to the need for a berth to lobby thier ISA abolishment agenda. so, they real interest may not lie line with RP.
second, if these ppl are ex-detainees, do u think PAP would easily let them participate in an election. for all u may know, the PAP could have used the conditions used to let them off in 1980s to thier advantage in getting rid of these ppl.
well, the above are speculation. but just wanted to say that the departure of ex-detainees may not necessarily be because of leadership in RP
if they serious abt seeking grievances, they should reconcile or move to a new party and contest every seat.
singapore has only 2 miserable opps and how to have anything heard?
reconciliation or move to new party to represent the public is the spirit.
It is better to divorce that to stay in an unhappy marriage. But the timing is bad.
Perhaps it is due to selection of candidates to stand for election;well at least they have a real say compared to the party run by the emperor and the incompetent prince.
It is a case of too many cooks. As the Chinese saying goes, ‘one mountain cannot house two tigers’. That is the main reason why LKY has run PAP his authoritarian way.
PAP members cannot follow this way lah!. They have to protect their million $ job, better be quiet. Die die also must tolerate.
RP no million $ job to protect, so they are more democratic. Dont agree, can decide to leave and nothing to lose.
That is the big problem, by paying million$. Attract all the money minded people in the government, not talent.
soh lung is one of the most repected poltical figure in s’pore. if she leaves, then there is really something wrong with rp’s leadership. i wonder what excuse kj has now? maybe her membership also lapsed?
Who disagree when i say none of you know the real reason why one by one left?
The best part is no one is really bothered to pursue for the Truth.
I guess, you cannot handle the Truth.
haha!
the respected late honlurable JBJ must be somewhat disrupted from his peaceful rest with the current going-ons in RP leadeship.
i hope RP leaders and substantive members can truly reflect and reform as one united entity sooner than later.
we need all the brave oppo members to UNITE FOR THEMSELVES AND FOR ALL TRUE BLUE LIONS.
we must stand united and neo let those ‘foreigners’ sneer at us together with the MIWs.
opposition(S) IS STILL THE OPPOSITION AND THE ONLY VOICE FOR ALL THE ‘VOICELSS’ SINGAPOREANS.
Hmmm.. it is bad for any party to fragment so soon before a general election. It does not spell reliability and trust from anyone. However, if there is indeed a real conflict of viewpoints between the members that quit and the original vision of the Reform Party, then I guess what they are doing is just following their own vision. I sure hope that the members that quit the Reform party may join another opposition party soon or form their own to contest in the G.E
KJ’s way or the Highway?
It is fine. Just learn for mistake.
KJ another LKY in the making?
Soh Lung hinted to me a few weeks ago ISD had suggested she left the RP.
former RP treasurer James Teo also called her suggesting she resigned.
The rest is history except that former old WP members from JBJ days cannot understand why despite all their
whistle blowing JBJ kept James not only in the party but as a close confidante.
James has not oppposition views at all and has not stood for any elections for all his more than 2 decades with WP and RP. Has not spoken in any Oppo forums either as panelist or from the floor. Of course it is because he has not attended any opposition forums at all. Don’t go for walkabouts and missing on holidays during GEs.
Hehehehe so many speculation going on about RP.One thing most people fail to see is that Reform Party, unlike other opposition party has people that can win any political election.RP “think tank”is hidden from members and public! RP has surprises that will shock even PAP !
Wake-up beautiful girl not all coffins contain your superman open and see who is inside, Brightspark! Your superman in newspaper said you unable to pay fees got sack, not resign now get polic U may be suspect break into his office. Is it Truth. S.C.
