Par for the course here, innit? Nothing surprises me anymore.

Well, a bunch of ISD people barging through my window and taking me away forever would surprise me. But only a little bit.

Really, CNA? Whoever drafted and approved this email should be fired. Totally no sense of propriety – just naked greed and exploitation of human tragedy.

We all knew that news media profit from tragic events, but to see it so shamelessly displayed like that… it’s just disturbing.

I hate to say this but Channel News Asia is not the only News network doing this. My friend who works before for other News network and currently in Al Jazeera English tells me all other News network such as CNN, Fox news, BBC e.t.c all of them do this. What it is is they send out news bulletins to commercial customers and advertising firms so that advertisers or companies that wishes to buy advertising time can advertise their services or products in the advertising spaces between news bulletins (Such as Insurance companies, Telecommunications companies, Investing firms e.t.c you get the picture)

Greed, avarice, venality seems to rule the roost and CNA seems to mirror the incumbents lah.

So much for ethics and principled journalism.

No surprise, this. But nice to see it in black and white; this happens the world over. Unfortunately, bad news is good news for the commercial news entities, which CNA now (the license fee subsides to make the junk they put out are history)are.

    Then again, who cares?
    CNA is a joke.
And have you all noticed? Seventy-80 percent of all ads on MediaCorp are in-house ads. Pretty sad, huh.

  18. Correction 21 March 2011

To correct blacktryst – I deal with international news channels all the time and they never promote advertising during this time. in fact, most good channels kick out all advertising for the first 24-72 hours in favor of going live 24/7. They do however promote advertising during big positive news events like Obama’s election, Royal Wedding, Millienium, etc…
