Tan Cheng Bock should not be running. Tony Tan is already the PAP candidate, dun need another one. Tan Kin Lian is qualified but in reality is an idiot. Tan Jee Say is not even qualified to run. I propose Nathan to run again, given the good work he has done over the past 12 years, and he is truly an independent candidate and can represent the minority.

it will be for the good fo singaporeans if TAN JEE SAY gets to be elected as the new EP.

in terms of financial knowhow and economics,TAN JEE SAY is the most well-versed.

TAN JEE SAY is energetic and relatively younger and the most delinked from the PAP GOVT and will thus has more room for more INDEPENDENT-MINDEDNESS in carrying out his EP functiions.

not that DR TAN CHENG BOK is not a good person,a good singaporean but DR TAN should really ahve considered to let another younger singaporean fill the role of EP which, going forward, should be more varied and active than what it has been.

    @yamagata

they were all “suppose” to be independent candidate, so it doesn’t matter if Dr Tony Tan & Dr Tan Cheng Bok is former PAP member. And i believe anyone of the 4 candidate could the “good” work S R Nathan have done. No disrepect here but honestly in the 12 year he is a President, i don’t believe he have ever voice out anything even during all the crisis we went thru in the past decade. And he is taking $4mil per year really hard to justify his riduculous pay.

The battle is between the 3 Tans, Tan Cheng Bock, Tan Jee Say and Tan Kin Lian. Tony Tan can step aside because he is a PAP dog.

    $4m x 12 = S$48 million for silent work.

    No wonder: Silence is golden!

All the Tans and Kuan please note!!!

All the candidates are pretty old and except AK, all ex-PAP men.

Wish we have someone dynamic like Obama, but then maybe Obama may not get his COE to run for Presidency here….

Anybody could become President except Nathan, the kwai kwai silent man, and Tony Tan, a great actor, so good he would not even blink an eye.

  11. There appears to be lots of effort by the establishment to remind the citizens that the President is not another executive source of power. But it has become one ever since the very citizens have started to see & shape it as one. The tone and substance of the EP from this point onwards will and must be different.

Surely our honorable PEC cannot reject all three (TCB, TKL,TJS),right???

“Anybody could become President except Nathan, the kwai kwai silent man, and Tony Tan, a great actor, so good he would not even blink an eye.”

    ……………..

This is so true. The last 2 occasions, Nathan was shooed in as the de-facto president by the PAP. Many people (myself included) were ignorant about
Nathan’s past and his links with the Kempaitai. If people knew about that, and there was an election, would Nathan have been elected?

But now, thanks to TOC and some good work from contributors like “iVOTEahMENG”, we know more about Nathan’s past. The key question now would then be: What do we NOT know about Tony Tan? If the PAP can shoo in a Kempaitai-linked person like Nathan as president, how much better can their other endorsed candidates like Tony Tan be?

So ladies & gentlemen, go spread the word so that the majority of Singaproreans would be wary of PAP-backed candidates like Tony Tan.

After 12 years of silence is golden, Nathan simply rationalise by saying he has no REAL power. Meaning, he can only be an order-taker(?). It’s not a matter of no lack of efforts etc., but the lack of imagination. Choose someone, whatever your choice, who can and has the ‘fearless imagination’ to be an order-getter president that work for the good of the people! Don’t waste another 12 years.

  19. We paid $48M to Nathan for doing nothing & saying notbing for 12 years. It makes TT Durai a saint. So, TT Durai indeed was paid peanuts.

Who should be accountable for this waste of tax layer money?

Prior to Tan Jee Say announcing his candidacy, I was reluctantly supporting TCB versus TKL. TCB is a doctor and has little understanding of investment finance, which is the minimally requisite knowhow to engage the PAP government on GIC and Temasek’s investment performance. TCB does not have such knowledge. Besides, he was only a non-executive chairman of Chuan Hup, which means he was not really managing Chuan Hup. The founding Peh put TCB there as a status symbol because he’s well connected to the ruling elite. Strictly speaking, he may not even qualify.

However, with Tan Jee Say now in, it is clear to all that he is heads and shoulders above TCB. TJS’s banking and fund management background position him perfectly to tackle the GIC and Temasek accounts.

  21. Indeed, TCB haven’t a clue about investment and high finance. He w’ont be able to engage the PAP government on anything dealing with economics or high finance. Besides, he’s too close to PAP especially with Goh Chok Tong. They were in RI together. Very strong bonding there. I would classify him in the PAP camp.

I prefer Dr Tan’s center parting hair style. It makes him look Presidential. He is the most dignified of the PAP ministers, and served a varied career as minister across so many portfolios. He also handles the press’ awkward and sensitive questions well, skillfully deflecting them. He has truly inherited the oratorical polish of LKY. Dr Tan is the best of the PAP second generation of ministers. I have no objection to him drawing million dollar salaries and perks.

‘We paid $48M to Nathan for doing nothing & saying notbing for 12 years.’

Correction- We didn’t pay him . It’s the PAP govt that pay him and themselves.
Also as an EP, he wasn’t elected by the people. Its also the PAP govt that installed him in that position.
This is what living in the dictorship is like.
PAP govt should try doing that in UK, US or Australia, and the will be sent into extinction by the electorate

Based on Elections Dept’s web-page, will Dr Tan Cheng Bock even qualify?

If TCB qualifies even without being Chairman/CEO of company with at least $100mn paid-up capital, then the Presidential Elections Committee will have to qualify Mr Tan Kin Lian who was at least of CEO rank but in a Co-operative (as opposed to a “Company” as defined). Otherwise, it would be too obvious KELONG!

    If TKL qualifies:
That will be PAP nightmare with risk of “freak” result as PAP-defined!

    If TCB-TKL-TT combi:
TCB+TKL votes > TT votes will be legal win but moral loss for PAP-preferred TT who is deemed whiter than TCB!

Mr Tan Jee Say obviously does not qualify based on his claim to $100mn Assets Under Management (it would be a farce if the Presidential Elections Committee stretches “Paid-Up Capital” criterion to extend to “AUM”).

WALKOVER in Presidential Election – From Four to Zero.

WAYANG – Drum Roll WITHOUT Curtain Call … unless some dark horse comes waltzing in from behind (eg, Walter Woon who auto-qualifies as former Attorney-General except that he is one-year short of the 3-year stint).
