Trying to obfuscate by claiming that ALL FOUR candidates have links to the government?
Having links is not the same as belonging to PAP. If I joined MOE as Teacher, I also “have links” to government. Am I PAP member? TKL was approached twice to run as MP and rejected. TJS was civil servant on payroll, common career path for scholarship students. Joined politics under Opposition.
Only TT and TCB were full-fledged party members (subject to party discipline) and contested elections under PAP. TCB was Opposition within PAP, BUT he remained in PAP 26 years.
Staying means loyalty. Why not resign and contest as independent MP?
DO NOT be misled. Internal critics are now embracing TCB as voice of reason, voice of change.
Whether or not all four are linked to the PAP is a matter of definition and timing. Maybe only two can be called truly of the PAP. Nevertheless it shows a dearth of political experience dished out to Singaporeans. It certainly is not a healthy state of affairs as indeed we the citizenry are feeling the heat of two million new bodies brought into our country, choking our jobs, transport , housing, medical , educational services.The PAP has sold our country with us as sitting tenants. All because there is no effective voice in Parliament to oppose such moves and moves to enrich themselves by gross overpayment of remuneration and sucking the juice out of the honey pots of the country. The ISD is a sentinel watching over the population for any challenge against the centre of power and the judges will do everything asked of them to quash any dissenters. To ensure that the PAP is not the sole dish on offer we have to oppose the centre of power’s power and that is the PAP version of the Rule of Law. How to do this? That is the question. There seems to be no answers which are safe and easy.
Looks like he will not be remembered for his sterling ministerial ability; rather, by his simplistic and convenient correlation fit for a kindergarten student’s consumption. He will be well and long remembered by what came out today. Well, if it keeps the piles of pension and pay packages coming, why not?

I have pre see this, so I did not vote for TCB and TT.
So this PE is all a lie. What independent president? What PE is not a GE? What President is above Politics?
The average Singapore man is very reasonable.
This is why we ended up with a dearth of political experience and 40 years of silent complicity.

This scenario calls up a story from a Chairman of a large international conglomerate about a CEC/MD of a company requesting the Board of Director to approve the appointment of a special assistant he has identified to assist him what is not included in his job description. The Board of Directors asked “From his (the assistant) CV, he seems to be able to do what you can do plus what you cannot do, is it true?” The CEO/MD affirmed that he has checked his (assistant) credentials and it is in order. The BOD agreed unanimously to sack the CEO/MD and to appoint the asssitant to the position. The BOD’s letter of dismissal to the dismissed CEO contained a simple message – What the heck we want you for when you can do only half the job and get the full pay?
Their letter of appointment also contained a simple message: “The company appoints you to be the CEO/MD. We hope you use your initiative and vision to lead the company.”

Dr. Tan, you have proven your standing with the people in this PE.
I feel that you can provide the leadership to form an alternate party to win significant seats in parliament on his own right.
I suggest you go ahead and ride on the momentum. Gather all the good and talented people that you have around you to prepare for next GE. You will get surprises. Why be kept in old storage as an expiring old guard. Do something worth doing – to unify the people of Singapore and to mature our moribund democracy which has produced sadly only a rather sick and divided society.
It is funny but I have stated in all my previous comments during the FAce2Face vids that I have a feeling that TCB is a silent PAP dark horse that was there to attract voters who were disaffected by TT but not neccessary want to change to someone else outside the party. But in anycase, the PE is over and done with and in all honesty, even if TCB is still intricately linked with PAP, he has come across as willing to change the status quo. That should be worth noting.
Knew that tcb is planning to be the president, given that he disagreed with the naming of the hospital.
Anyway, everyone should have hope, dream and ambitious to contribute healthy and morally way to reach the top.

I agreed with blackryst. I believe TCB was original EP Endorse by the PAP. The Moment EP announcement came he came forward first and follow by TKL. TT was not in the picture at all but the People of Singapore were online debating about the role of Elected President. I guess the rumors got into the Government that there might another 2 or more will be participating in the Election. Suddenly SPH runs news there must be possible TT will stand in the election follow by TJS. PAP was prepare to take on an challenge. The PAP knows very well about the debate online and the criticism its facing from the people. The manage to survive the GE is because of 2 reasons (1) I am SORRY SORRY SORRY by PM LHL (2) FEAR of losing their comfortabilities. There are always the bad guy and good guy in the same system. Same thing between Father and Mother – who he stricter and who is the sweeter. Same TCB has always been so call the anti within the party yet he was the Feedback chief who play the softer part whereas the rest play tougher part. I bet TCB is very disappointed that he was the selected MP to be seventh President but too bad just because TJS and TKL spoil his presidential dreams. MY QUESTION TO TCB – WHO CAN BRING THE DIVIDE COUNTRY INTO ONE UNITED COUNTRY? (1) The President (2) The Current PAP Government (3) The 6 WP Opposition MP (4) Other Opposition Party (5) IN GE 2016 A New Government is Form based on People Choice. Let see how many people choose from 1 to 5. My choice will be No. 5 which has to be a New Party with a Vision and Objective. All the current Opposition or the Current PAP Government only say this and that but what action has they taken. I find the Policy maker are not the MP, they are bunch of idiots rattling at the parliament yet the motion is past. In facts till today i am disappointed with the PM LHL who is the Leader of the Government for not stepping forward to say I will advise the approx.. Government Agency to take action on TPL and also Filipino Insults on Singaporean, The curry CMC Saga etc, he choose to stay out of it shows HOW POOR IS THE LEADER OF PAP. In fact why TT wins is very simple fact, the PAP Grassroots Organization will ensure that all PA, CCC, RC, Unions, Government Agencies are monitor closely that they VOTE for TT and why TCB got the balance vote People of Singapore has be dupe by this old man that he is independent candidate yet PM LHL made calls to both of the them to SAY WELL DONE and Both of you have executed the plan very well. If TJS had some experience as MP or he was know to the People of Singapore definitely he would garner the highest vote. because I ask some of my old folks who did you vote for then they say we were asked to VOTE for the OLD MAN in white hair and his symbol is spectacle. Then I ask them why didn’t you Vote others, she say attendance was taken down that we vote for TT and also the exposure on the TV on the Candidates didn’t give very much of the ideas who is who. That why i agree with TJS that Time was too short and also Senior Citizens were dupe by their so call grassroots leader to vote for TT. So I ask myself what is the point having a election when you know that one of your people will be President… That what we called PLAN B. What is the PLAN B…
have you ever thought that pap needed new blood, new leader for next generation and party? Without TT, pap will throw his weight on TCB but he met a strong opponent, TJS.

If you are reading TOC, the ball is thrown by the people into your court.
Show us that you are entirely independent and continue with what you said you would do if you were elected.
Now you are just like one of us, an ordinary citizen (unaffiliated to any political party or are you not?). Take up, understand and appreciate the issues of the people and champion those you think deserve your support as a man with good support not only from your old constituents but also from your old colleagues including those apprehensive ones.
It is a good time to show us you are truely independent and non-partisan and is true to yourself by carrying out your mission you have said with such vigour and commitment in your recent campaign.
The people are anxiously looking up to you to help raise their voices from their downgraded status re noises of the environment.
Before TKL and TJS joined in the contest, it was a just a battle in the style of Hollywood/Bollyward productions. Mildly entertaining and of no consequence.

TT was only put into to contest TCB. Or else PAP will send in the Malay candidate liao as part of the mult-racial rotation. I hope you don’t mind me calling you Tony. I am sure being fresh from
campaigning, you are still in a backslapping, informal, mix with the
commoners mood and don’t mind my being informal.
I am not sure if you are presently basking in the after-glow of your
victory. But it must be difficult for you to accept that the majority of
Singaporeans did not vote for you and in fact view your victory with dismay..
Your victory must have been a big relief to you given the very slim majority
you won. Put in another way, you almost lost. If just 20% of the spoilt
votes had gone to TCB, it would have happened. To paraphase Winston
Churchill, “never has so much depended on so few”, 7,269 voters to be
precise.
I am sure you read Malcolm Gladwell’s book “Outliers” where the element of
luck was highlighted in “Success”. You were extremely lucky in having 3
other candidates and they were certified fit to contest and the votes were
therefore split.
You were lucky to have two fairly strong contenders who to some extent
diluted the votes among themselves. If it was a straight fight between you
and TCB or you and TJS, I daresay the outcome may have been different.
You were also lucky that TKL entered the fray and proved to be stubborn
until the end. He could have surrendered early in the campaign when it was
apparent that his was a lost cause and asked his supporters to back TCB or
TJS. This could have endeared him to Singaporeans. Instead he persevered
in his self delusion that he had a chance and is the one who made it
possible for you to win. Singaporeans will remember him for that.
I need to be upfront with you and say I did not vote for you.
I did not vote for you as I thought you would not be independent being so
intimately tied up with the Government and the management of the reserves
only up to two months ago. I wanted somebody who was much more independent
and not afraid to speak up. You did not fit my requirements.
I was also very disappointed and angry at the continued silence over your
sons’ NS. Why is it so difficult for you and your sons to provide
information on what they did during their NS and refute all the various
allegations? If your sons are proud of their NS record, then why be so coy
about telling more.
Surely with your background as a banker and a top politican, as you yourself
stated, it is important not only to be principled and fair but to be seen to
be so. You surely know better than to place yourself in a position where
your actions and motives can be questioned. People will always wonder and
question. Continued silence will just leave this sore festering and blight
your Presidency. Who knows when and under what circumstances this
controversy will resurface and this could even affect the PAP in future
elections?
Given your actions during this campaign, I will not hold my breath waiting
for clarification and I think Singaporeans will never know unless the
information is forced and pried out somehow.
We had previously a President, who was not elected by any Singaporean voter,
and who served for 12 years. A Presidency best distinguished for being the
highest paid political office in Singapore much more than even the Prime
Minister himself). Now we have a President chosen by one out of 3
Singaporeans. So there has been some progress after all.
Could I suggest you start off your Presidency on a high note? How about
donating your entire President’s pay to charity? TKL and TJS were willing
to part with some of the pay. TCB thought it was tantamount to buying
votes. You said nothing. Since you already won the elections, you can start
off your Presidency with this magnanimous gesture. This will be a powerful
symbolic move to put your Presidency on solid moral ground right from the
start and emphasise your commitment to public service for all Singaporeans.
I
am sure you can spare the few millions involved. This will make it
exceedingly difficult for future potential candidates to challenge you the
next round.
I am afraid I cannot give you much advice right now on what else you can do..
Although you have won, you know that the majority of Singaporeans are
disappointed that this happened. But a win is a win and is better than
losing. You are now in the saddle. I am sure your advisors will be
brainstorming with you over the coming months on how you will define and
manage your Presidency.
The PAP itself probably also was very relieved that you had won but will
have to reexamine the reasons for your poor performance and learn from this
episode.
For the future, I just want to say that although we may stand as a sign of
respect when you officiate at functions, do not mistake this as anything
else than a sign of respect to the office that you hold.
Just remember that what is worse than an unloved President is a President
that we do not respect. Respect must be earned. Please don’t take the
whole of 6 years to do this.

If TCB had the mandate of the PAP to be president… whats up with all the PAP related institutions & “unions” openly endorsing ONLY Tony Tan? Why not Both then?
It is so far fetched that even i feel embarassed as a Singaporean that our “esteemed Fellow Singaporeans” can claim credit in nothing less than our national media that based on the results the PAP has a “resounding mandate” from the electorate…

I believe that the Government will be perfectly comfortable and happy with either TT or TCB.
TCB may be a little more vocal, but he understand the rules and will not overstep the boundaries of his alloted powers if he becomes President.

By giving 71% to TT and TCB, the people had spoken and wisely so.

Everyone knows/percives TCB+TJS+TKL represents “check-on-PAP”. Media also played on this perception during the campaign. So TT support is only 35%.
By twisting the facts to suit their case just show how low PAP/Media can go. It is these things that piss off thinking Singaporeans.
If TCB had won the PE, he would surely ask the PMO, SMO and MMO to shift out of Istana. That’s for sure. TCB said they were too close for comfort.
TCB went on to say in his rally that TT should not standing for PE cause he just resigned from GIC. This led TT to comment that TCB was mischievous. So my take is TCB is genuinely out of the PAP influence.
Now TCB, TJS, TKL and all the opposition parties should get together and thrash out their policies and pose a common front in 2016. That would have made my day.
The question is what is TCB going to do with his near-mandate.
(i) Nothing and just fade away
(ii) Start a new political party or support others in forming a new one even if he does not join
(iii) Join an existing one (PAP, WP, SDP, RP, SPP) even if he does not intend to stand in the next GE but continue to have a voice and shape the political landscape
(iv) Campaign for electoral/political reform (without joining or forming a party) as an active citizen
(v) take up whatever ‘reward’ position is offered by govt (or GLC or institution), if such offer is made.
TCB is not to be trusted…he cannot fight his old boss who now claim him as their own…making him a laughing stock for the PAPies who now kill him good and proper. By next election he will be 77, really too old to fight anyone, let alone the PAP. In any case, Janadas Devan husband of Yaccob’s sister and Ho Kwon Ping a converted PAPies, are floating the idea of an Electoral College to select the next President.. Just shows how PAPies are already plotting their next move to control the next PE…manipulation knows not end with this party.

Don’t ask for Media coverage for your WIP (WORK -IN-PROGRESS) in the Heartlands.
Complete all block of flats within 3 years from now.
Complete it with atleast 7 rounds.
Ensure that all Constituents are your ‘Media’ person.
Do it by visiting them (all of them) at their doorstep.
The Constituents are your ‘Media’ person and they are your supporters and that would translate into votes for you!
Think about it very carefully if you want a CHANGE!
