The citizenry has been blackmailed! Having a President to guard the reserve shot themself in the foot, so this time they use:-
1. President to unite people – clear warning that if non-PAP President, no unity possible.
2. President to steer thru economic storm – they have always always used this becos Sporeans worry about material possession & pride very much. So who better than PAP the elites who will spare you some change?
3. President as figure head to rep Sg – Ya, ya clear hint someone line Tony Tan who has been in office & the world knows him.
In conclusion, if Singaporeans are not strong enough to stand up for yourself & your families, like the Libyans are doing for their own future, you are forever blackmailed.
From this video, the booing, and other interviews, I find TJS is so combative and always angry. Even though I’ve never seen SDP close up, this PE chance has shown him to be exactly what I imagine SDP to be.
Sorry, even as an opposition voter, I can say surely that I won’t vote for him and his SDP gang even in the GE. Don’t even talk about the PE.
No doubt the present system is not perfect, but these SDP people are just too bent on demolishing our present system in one swoop. They are dangerous. There is too much hate and too little reason in them. They seem to be in this for some deep vendatta, rather than to serve Singapore.
Please wake up SDP. You’re destroying the opposition’s image.
Vote for TT very qualified and capable but too close to government.
Tkl face really cmi.
Tjs will divide the country further and will opp readily on everything. (imagine he nominate CSJ to presidential council) Lol
That left With Tcb
Sigh . Decide to cast for NahTan.
@Clear Eyed
“Of the 4 candidates Tony Tan comes off the worst. He strikes me as cold, smug, disdainful and his smile was plastic…recover the Singapore Spirit we have lost over 5 decades of being ruled by a dictator.”
If you wish to talk about smiles then TJS wasn’t all that sincere either. And we may recover the Singapore Spirit (if we really lost it in the first place) but there will not be a Singapore body to house it.
@Blurrrrdog
It is easy to say that when we have not experienced any terrorist attacks for a long time. If any of the canidates get elected and somehow close down the ISA and a terrorist attack could not be prevented because of its closure, don’t go about complaining that that the government never did anything when you rejected its efforts in the first place.
Unfortunately, TJs is playing against an old hand, he fell into the trap by TY. Have to blame his inexperience, sigh…. There isn’t anyone that I will vote for, as none impress me so far.
Nothing wrong with SDP or Chee Soon Juan style21 August 2011

Welcome to the world of politics. Its very normal in true democratic developed countries, only you don’t see it at play in Sg much bcos of obvious reasons. It is not your school debate teams trying to impress the teachers.
Unfortunately, TJs is playing against an old hand, he fell into the trap by Tt. Have to blame his inexperience, sigh…. There isn’t anyone that I will vote for, as none impress me so far.
TT’s interruption of TJS has clearly demonstrated his inability to dissociate himself from his past. If he is above politics and is truly independent as he claimed himself to be, there is then no need to defend the government when TJS claimed that ISA has been used for political purposes. In fact, TJS could have capitalized on TT’s unnecessary outburst and question TT’s need to defend the government.
TT also demonstrated his poor listening skill. He is skirting around questions, giving only motherhood answers. He does not even understand that a question is about transparency instead of investment decisions. He is a classic example of PAP today, poor listening and poor grasp of people’s concerns.
All my fellow singaporeans. when you view the video keep two things in mind. firstly what the question asked and secondly was it directly answered to. whether you agree with the answer would than lead you to either agree or disagree. but the main aim here is to see if the candidates do actually answer the question or just fib their way out of it just like most politicians. and according to the first video one should take note tony tan is not answering certain questions directly. which tells alot about what he would do if elected follow and rulling party and not able to answer question post by the people to him.
some S’poreans never seen a spirited debated before. when see for 1st time they say its hooligan.
i guess they never sought help from their MPs before either. btw, after hearing those horror stories of the MIW’s i change my mind…
if this is hooliganism, they’ve never seen how cool the mafia can be when dishing out extreme violence.
i wonder our army boy boys will just sit still when whacked. maybe they will after being trained to “just follow (orders) loh”, commander enemy army so big we sure loose wan- surrender lah.
I am an outsider & I don’t know about the past history of ISA in Singapore. To me, the question was asked to solicit the 4 candidates’ opinions or what they think about the issue of ISA. I thought Mr Tan Jee Say’s comment or opinion that it is wrong to use ISA for dealing with political opponents is a good point, this has always been the worry in dictator countries. I don’t understand why Dr Tony Tan sprung to ask Mr Tan J S to back it up. Back what up? It was suppose to be an opinion on the ISA issue.
Besides, I personally do not take it that Mr Tan J S was trying to accuse anyone of anything. Dr Tan was being very jumpy on this subject. Was something very seriously amiss? I have always known Singapore to be an open democratic country & I am more than curious now to know more why Dr Tan was being so jumpy.
As for Dr Tony Tan’s comment, it is fair enough if he thinks that the it is impt to have ISA citing the Norway incident implying that it could have been prevented. If he thinks that can convince his audience, it is his own perogative too.
Key to the audience or listeners is to see how the individuals think about such an Act. Interesting that a candidate should ask another to back up an opinion.
@RC,
It is even more interesting if you have watched Part 2. TT keeps going around the bush until the moderator has to direct the question to him again.
Let’s learn from the GE, the vocal intelligentsia (that’s you and me) are
Highly politically conscious and hence, more often than not, anti-PAP.
And that we form the minority.
If we vote for jee say, we will send Tony tan into presidency.
That will be the worst case scenario.
And we know tan Cheng bock has super strong grassroots support
Who are pro-pap. He can at least steal some votes there.
I will place all my votes and put all my influence to shift votes on Tan Cheng Bock.
We mustn’t split the opposition votes!
Anybody but Tony tan.
Mr Tan Jee Say has expressed his views without reservations and with courage. Sometimes, this is sadly mistaken as confrontational. He could present his views in gentler manner but to suggest he is wrong is unjustifiable.
To those who are advocating for a president that doesn’t put his views across strongly, i would remind them to be careful of what they are wishing for. The president, has an important and critical role in protecting our reserves. If this role is undertaken by a man who doesn’t confronts, when necessary, then it will be a lots of troubles.
At the end of the day, before the votes are casted, let all of us examined the candidates positioning carefully. Our choices are limited to 4. So it’s not able who is the perfect president but rather, amongst these 4, who is better.
I will be voting for a president who can discharge his duties without fear or fevour. In this aspect, I will be careful and check the candidates to see if they are intelligent through the ways they answered the questions. I will also analyse if their listening skills are good because the people are the ones that are voting him into presidency. It is more than just a tagline but actually doing it. Last, I will look out for any signs where the candidates reserve their comments when they could have spoken. The president is independent but should have the courage to speak when there is a need.
@Pro singapore,
You are right that we should not spilt votes although I know of some opposition supporters going for TCB.
However, if we were to spilt votes among the other 3 candidates other than TT, then I have no doubt TT will win eventually which is PAP win, not Singaporeans win.
As such, we must focus on one candidate and give him our whole heartedly supports instead. So that he can be our voice and check & balance.
Seriously, PAP fear and hate most is TJS. TCB was PAP man for almost 30 years. TKL seems too meek to me. I will go for TJS for his sincerity and compassion towards Singaporeans.
ISA needs reviewing, TT obviously defend govt’s position…contradicting to being independent as claimed.. & he compromises on descriminations for “long -term” sake… probably bcos he’s not those affected? Too alienated to talk as if it’s not his business, oops, common lives is not his business anyway… he could/should be more compassionate & understanding..
TJS is too radical and does not unite the people. In fact, he is actively seeking discourse, hate etc
Immagine a dysfunctional Government that is always scoring points with each other and when Head of States of other countries visit, the President disparage his Cabinet “colleagues”…
Sorry, I have seen enough dysfunctional governments (USA etc). I vote for either Tony Tan or Tan Cheng Bock.
TJS had a good point but he did not speak well (RI boy like that meh?) and he lost his cool and dignity & thus lost a good opportunity to put TT in a spot. He is too unpolished. MP ok. President?? Cringe.
Having seen the vedio, I don’t see anything wrong with TJS’s respond.
But rather TT’s behavior leaves a bad taste:
1) TT was very provocative and combative when he post the chellenge to TJS that he has to produce evidents to substantiate his claim.
2)TT was seen laughing in a sarcastic manner when the chair person was talking to TJS.
To me, TJS was just replying to TT’s provocative remarks. To me, TJS’s wasn’t aggressive but was reacting to someone who is seeking a debate with him. Believe TJS’s reaction is also due to his knowledge of the detainees and their true stories.
TT’s coolness and calmness are camourflages to his more cunning and scheming side.
I would vote for a President with back bones and stand out for justice rather than one who have so much to hide.
Do not vote for TSJ to sensible Singaporean he is dividing Singapore into 2 parties government and opposition.
If he is elected Singapore will end up like Thailand yellow and red.
TSJ is hot heated and talk like hooligan if he get voted in he also be a ‘YES’ man to PAP to protect his job as a President.
He said he willing to take 500k is still a lot of money to a person just an investor without any track record.Even that clown TKL is still a former CEO of NTUC income.
Don’t be stupid the promises he said will come to past??? TALK IS CHEAP!!!
Today ST said that his Hainanese clan clarified that they are not endorsing him.
We cannot afford to vote for such a person to be our President.
What can one do if one does not want a president at all. I mean how shall one vote? I see two Tans are just prolongations of the PAP and the other two as lame ducks. Lame ducks not because they are intrinsically incapable but because the system is stacked against them. I do not see either of the Tans willing to rot in an ISD prison for decades. It boils down to the fact that the president is an eyewash when you have pit-bulls of the PAP fretting and strutting on the stage. Shouldn’t the ISD disappear first before we institute any other sham institutions of democracy. Even if it is the Law Minister’s brand of ‘Asian’ democracy.

TONY LOST BILLIONS. CITIGROUP PRICE CHART SHOWN: http://singaporereserves.blogspot.com
Tony Tan is a hypocrite because he tacitly allow his son Patrick Tan to be given preferential treatment in NS.
Tony Tan is incompetent because he is responsible for billions of dollars lost during 2008/2009 financial crisis while he was in GIC
He is not fit to run for EP office!

a few days ago, TOC said part 2 coming up at the said time.
At 6pm, I found it was delayed till 10pm.
Now its 10:15pm.
I suspect there is some problem.

I hope its not the censor issue.
