A TOC reader, Mr Noor Firdaus was so irked by the photo above which was captioned with a highly racist and offensive remark that he wrote in to a few MPs requesting that they ask Mr Neo to take that picture down. Mr Firdaus claims that the picture with the highly offensive caption was posted on the Facebook of a Young PAP member Jason Neo.

Mr Firdaus said that MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC Zaqy Mohamed eventually replied to him saying that he will advise Mr Neo to take that picture down.

Mr Firdaus sent in his communication with Mr Neo and Mr Zaqy with the offensive picture to TOC, requesting that we draw attention to it on our website. He hopes that through this highlighting, people will learn to be more sensitive of the of the people of various ethnicity that live here, and also develop greater tolerance.

“As a political activist Jason should not have posted the picture”, says Mr Firdaus.

The following is MP Zaqy Mohamad’s response to Mr Noor Firdaus:

Thank you again for keeping us informed. Jason Neo has removed the post which I personally feel is inappropriate, given our respect for multi-racialism and multi-culturalism here.

However, I am informed that the photo posted was made earlier in the year some time in Feb. Jason had joined YP much later in June. We will speak to him about his past posting, but rest assured, that YP does not condone this view or practice. I’d also like to assure you that this view is not prevalent among our members.

As a young person, Jason may not have realised the implications of his past postings once he has joined a political organisation and we hope that he will gain a lesson through this experience.

Thank you

Warmest regards,

Zaqy Mohamad

Mayor Teo Ser Luck commenting on this highly sensitive caption on Facebook says:

We will have to take action. Such acts must be condemned.”

Writer, poet and playwright Alfian Sa’at commenting on the insensitive post by the YPAP member:

I believe this kind of captioning has come from an extremist Chinese. Where are the voices of the Chinese moderates? I want to hear from the Chinese moderates. Why are they silent? Why are they not condemning this act?

National Solidarity Party member Abdul Salim:

I have just make a Police report against Jason Neo Tiong Yap. Was updated by the officers on duty that the Principal of HUDA Kindergarten has also lodge a report early in the afternoon.

Jason Neo is a dumb person who was simply doing what he does best – being dumb.

And YPAP, is it not about time you start to learn to do some simple background checks on your applicant’s FB, blogs, websites, etc? This will help you to avoid more such embarassments in future.

More importantly, we can and we must stop these (whether they are YPAP members or not) from ruining the good relations we have, whether be they Chinese, Malays, Indian, etc. Everyone is human and deserve to be respected.

Hell, the animals are getting more exposure and protection than our fellow humans – shame on those who trample on your own kind – you’re worse than a cockroach!

  2. @doppelganger,

can you explain to pap government and the spf and the singapore public why no indian muslims or chinese muslims or pakistani muslims have cried “racism” thus far. and why single out the chinese. do they follow some kind of doctrine where they assume that they must fight every criticism that come their way. the chinese don’t have to do anything. they cannot show other singaporeans any doctrine whatsoever.

Inconsistency is the name of the game – he was specific about a race and even a place, yet nothing happened but quitting his party. Dread to imagine what would happen if the shoe was on the other foot…

Wait, don’t need to imagine, TRE and Donaldson Tan cases are proof. These go straight to court even though using non-specific posting of animals instead of actual humans. What next? Buddhist and Hindus up in arms outside Sizzler Steakhouse?

The law needs to be fair, if not, there is no justice.
