On Monday, InSing.com published an article (‘Trains to get more crowded’). According to the article, train commuters will have little choice but to put up with trains getting more crowded in the next three years because projects to alleviate the overcrowding will take years to implement.

Below are some comments from TOC Facebook’s readers:

Shawn Poon:

It begs the question: WHYY do we have to wait until 2018 before the system can we upgraded? That’s seven years.

梁琬婷 :

‎”The population here grew by more than one million people in the ten years between the year 2000 to 2010, far higher than previous forecasts.” So isn’t this evident of bad forecasting by the govt/ immigration dept? Yet we are asked to live with it. “It cannot be helped”. “We have little choice.” Y are the ministers and PM paid millions to give us little choice?! Can you tolerate your servants telling u that and u still wanna keep employing the bad service?! >:(

Tan Tiong Hock:

Despite the peak hours congestion and occasional hiccups on delays and trip-offs, our mrt system is by international standards ok and to be proud of.  Yes there will always be hiccups and always with rooms for improvement. Comparatively if you have lived and experienced the other big cities’ subways/metros/tubes etc and if you keep an open mind, you shld smile…think sensibly.

Lim Kay Siu:

once again Lui Tuck Yew does a bad job. they moved him to transport because he was screwing up, and now he can’t handle this job. all the propaganda about him traveling by mrt by the national propaganda press of selective lying and truth distortions right after the elections are proving how our national press are so full of shit.no solutions, perhaps because he never tried to find any.

Loke Yu Ming:

If DESPITE the recent ADDED CAPACITY of the EXTENSIVE Circle Line network, STILL ”we can expect our trains to get even more crowded”, why should we believe that new projects can ”alleviate the situation”? Isn’t it obvious that our tiny 700 sqkm island has reached its physical limit in terms of the number of foreigners we can take in?

Billy Ong:

Build your own damn trains then.

Mun Loon:

The issue isn’t about how singaporeans are always winching, but the fact that the alternatives to public transport is not accessible.  Singaporeans are told, time and again, to look at other first world cities, like Sydney or Melbourne, and their train system is nothing comparable to Singapore’s, and their prices are so much more expensive.. but what they didn’t tell you is that the barriers to owning a car, and not using the public transport system is so much lower.

Low Soon Peng:

Lesser space does not mean lower quality of life.. does that apply to mrt also? :DDDDD

  1. The gov can relax the private buses laws and allow them to ferry passengers from some hot stations to some hot town stations during weekdays. this will cut smrt profit but will bring better comfort and an additional choice to passengers. thousands of johors people use this system to come to singapore to earn big bucks. they never have an issue.

S’pore is not Tokyo or KL. why you never say HK? about the size of S’pore? its officals earn much less but they are not defensive in the face of criticisms.

trains services are dropping despite higher fares! that is the whole truth!
