西海岸集选区人民行动党议员洪维能,周一在国会上称,在走访樟宜商业园后,在那里感受到,明明身在自己国土,“却恍若异客”。 他形容自己在走入樟宜商业园时,发现身边都是穿着“光鲜亮丽“的人们,而且这些人显然是外国人,对着他说外语。 “我第一次感觉到,身在自己的国家,自己却像外国人一样”,他指出。 他也描述,自己曾与某德国公司的子公司高层共进午餐,该名高阶主管为30多岁的法国人。 该名高阶主管就向他透露,如今的法国因为高失业率所以很难找到优渥的工作。这不仅仅是个人观点,而是所有外国人也认同的观点,即新加坡对他们而言是能够得到好工作的地方。 在听完此番言论后,洪维能认为,如果换成是本地人,相信也能够胜任这些外国人的工作。他强调,新加坡核心劳动力应该遍布所有领域,而并非只是在金融行业。 即使副总理王瑞杰自身也坦言,居民关注樟宜商业园有大量的外派雇员。而樟宜商业园就在王瑞杰的东海岸选区。 洪维能于2011年大选时竞选裕廊集选区,因此同年,他也开始担任政府国会委员会的成员之一。此外,他于2011至2015年,还是预算委员会的成员之一。 在2020年大选时,他从裕廊集选区转战西海岸集选区,与前进党角逐,然而人民行动党却以51.7巴仙险胜。 尽管洪维能表示,第一次感觉到自己如同外国人,然而,早在2011年,樟宜商业园已经被网友戏称为“清奈商业园(Chennai Business Park)”,巧合的是,洪维能当时也是第一次成为议员。 曾有位部落客在2011年写道,“对了,你知道樟宜商业园(Changi Business Park)如今被戏称为“清奈商业园(Chennai Business Park)吗?”,请听我娓娓道来,最终,我们也会被当成一个笑话。当中国人和印度开始在我国土地上深耕,然后将我们排除在外,我们才是那个笑不出声的人,好吗?” 经过9年后,洪维能议员才发现,樟宜商业园已经充斥着说着外来语的外国人,他才惊觉自己才是国家的“陌生人”。
