Eyewitness account
An eyewitness to the incident, Nguyen Thi Hanh, has publicly shared a detailed account of the event, which reportedly took place near a car park beside a Chinese temple close to Maxwell MRT station.
Nguyen stated that she had been walking directly behind the mother and daughter when the car exited the car park. She alleges that the driver only checked traffic from the left and failed to notice the pedestrians approaching from the right before turning.
According to her, the vehicle’s front wheel ran over the girl's abdomen, followed by the mother’s leg. The witness further claims that the driver then accelerated, causing the rear wheel to roll over the mother’s abdomen.
Nguyen described the scene as traumatic, stating the child was flung and landed face down in a pool of blood. She recalled seeing the girl’s water bottle and a small camera beside her, and reported that the blood was coming from the child’s mouth.
In a subsequent Facebook exchange, Nguyen added that about five minutes after the incident, blood began flowing heavily from the girl's mouth, and she feared the girl was in critical danger. Another commenter, Hannah Đặng, described seeing the child’s father arrive shortly after the accident and hold the girl while pleading, “please, please,” expressing helplessness at being unable to assist.
Nguyen later revised her statement to include additional details, explaining that she had initially omitted specifics due to work commitments. In her updated account, she stated that the driver appeared unaware that the vehicle had struck someone, and allegedly did not stop immediately to assess the situation. Instead, she claimed, the driver accelerated again, resulting in further contact with the mother.
She added that when the driver finally exited the car and realised a serious accident had occurred, she became visibly defensive, allegedly raising her voice while attempting to explain that she was not at fault.
Nguyen described the exchange between the driver and the grieving father as tense and emotional.
Nguyen has also indicated her willingness to assist in the case, stating, “I can help, might be the one to testify in the traffic accident.”
