A mathematics teacher at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School has died, prompting tributes from students and alumni who recalled her dedication and lasting impact.

A mathematics teacher at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School has died, the school said on Monday, prompting an outpouring of grief from current and former students who paid tribute to her dedication and impact.
The school announced the death of Ms Chia Yi Ying “with deep sadness” in an Instagram post on 20 April, which had garnered more than 2,000 likes and over 20 comments at the time of writing.
The post described her as a “dedicated teacher and valued member” of the institution.

“Her commitment, compassion, and steadfast belief in her students left a lasting impact on many lives,” the post said, adding that she would be remembered “with great respect and fondness”.
“Our heartfelt condolences are with her family and all who know her,” the school said.

She was listed on the school’s website under its Mathematics and Principles of Accounts Department, and was identified as a Flexi-Adjunct Teacher (FAJT), a scheme that allows former teachers to work on a flexible, hourly-rated basis.
The school did not disclose her age or the cause of death.
Following the announcement, students and former students posted messages of condolence and remembrance on the school’s Instagram page, highlighting Chia’s influence both academically and personally.
Several described her as an inspiring teacher who went beyond routine instruction to support her students’ growth.

Another commented: “I graduated 10 years ago, but I fondly remember the amount of effort and concern you gave when I was in sec 4. You were definitely the best physics teacher I’ve ever had, rest in peace Ms Chia.”

Others wrote: “Goodbye Ms Chia, we will miss you” and “My favourite teacher... May she rest in peace.”
The comments reflected a broad span of years, suggesting that Chia’s influence extended across multiple cohorts of students.
In comments posted on Death Kopitiam Singapore, former students also shared their memories of Ms Chia.
One former student described her as “a truly dedicated teacher” who played a key role during his secondary school years.
“I remember her always well prepared for her lessons, putting in effort to help us understand, do our best and the many consultation sessions [together],” he wrote.
“As we became seniors in school, she became someone we could laugh with too… chill and always approachable.”
