MALAYSIA: A 13-year-old boy was assaulted at a bakery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after being wrongly accused of jumping a queue, in an incident that has since gone viral on social media.

According to Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Suliezmy Affendy Sulaiman, the incident occurred at about 1.30pm on 24 March at a bakery located within the Pasar Seni LRT Station.

The victim, identified as Farhan Nasir Muhammad Isa, had gone to the shop alone to buy bread while his aunt waited in a nearby car.

Sudden confrontation and assault

Police investigations revealed that Farhan was the only customer standing at the counter when a man in his 40s approached him and began accusing him of cutting the queue.

Despite there being no visible line, the suspect reportedly acted aggressively and suddenly slapped the teenager across the face.

The force of the blow caused Farhan to fall to the ground. A voice captured in the viral video could be heard shouting, “Don’t cut the line!” during the incident.

Farhan later recounted that he had intended to purchase bread when the unknown man struck him without warning.

Injuries and medical treatment

Following the assault, Farhan was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

Medical personnel confirmed that he sustained a soft tissue injury to his nose as a result of the incident.

Although the injury was not life-threatening, the case has raised concerns over public safety and unprovoked violence in crowded urban areas.

Police investigation and legal action

The victim’s father has since lodged a police report, prompting an official investigation into the incident.

Authorities are currently investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

The case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, due to the circulation of the incident video online.

Police have described the suspect as a man in his 40s wearing a white shirt and are continuing efforts to identify and take further action against him.

Public concern over random violence

The incident has sparked public concern, particularly as it involved a minor being assaulted in a public place without clear provocation.

Observers have highlighted the dangers of escalating confrontations based on assumptions, especially in crowded locations such as transport hubs.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect has been arrested at the time of reporting.
