MALAYSIA: A China passenger was escorted off a Malaysia Airlines flight in Malaysia after a dispute involving alleged physical contact with a cabin crew member, according to reports and eyewitness accounts.
The incident took place on 7 April on flight MH318, which was scheduled to depart from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Security personnel were called in after attempts by crew members to defuse the situation were unsuccessful.
According to China Press, the passenger was believed to have touched a female flight attendant, prompting the airline to deny him boarding and remove him from the aircraft.
Dispute escalates on board
Videos circulating online showed the man defending his actions, claiming he had only “lightly tapped” the flight attendant twice and did not consider it an act of aggression.
He was also heard requesting that onboard CCTV footage be reviewed to support his version of events.
However, his explanation was not accepted by the airline staff. Security officers were subsequently called to the aircraft and escorted him off the plane in front of other passengers.
Witness describes chaotic boarding
A fellow passenger, identified as Ye Yuanyi, later shared his experience on social media, describing the situation as chaotic even before the dispute occurred.
He said the airline had made a last-minute aircraft change, which resulted in seat reassignments for several passengers.
Although check-in had been completed, many travellers were unable to scan their boarding passes at the gate and were required to return to the counter to reprint them and receive new seat allocations.
Frustration among passengers
According to the witness, the boarding area became crowded and disorganised, with limited space and no clear crowd control.
Ground staff were reportedly slow in processing reissued tickets, which left passengers feeling frustrated and fatigued as departure time approached.
He added that some groups who had originally been seated together were separated, and there was insufficient time to resolve these issues before boarding.
Language barrier adds to confusion
The witness also noted that many China passengers faced difficulties understanding instructions due to language barriers, as translation assistance was not readily available at the scene.
This reportedly led to further confusion and heightened tension among those affected.
While he acknowledged that the removed passenger may have behaved inappropriately, he suggested that the earlier disorganisation could have contributed to the escalation.
Investigation and aftermath
It remains unclear whether further action will be taken against the passenger, and the airline has not publicly disclosed additional details regarding the case.
The incident has drawn attention online, with discussions focusing on passenger conduct, airline procedures, and the handling of disputes during boarding.
Authorities and the airline have yet to release an official statement clarifying the full sequence of events.
