Meeting at the Élysée Palace
During his visit, Prabowo met French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, where he was received with full military honours, including a guard of honour.
The two leaders held a tête-à-tête meeting — a private, one-on-one discussion between heads of state — at the palace, followed by an official luncheon. The discussions were described as cordial, with both sides exchanging views on bilateral relations and global developments.
Indonesia’s Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya accompanied the president during the visit.
Focus on strategic cooperation
Talks between Prabowo and Macron centred on strengthening cooperation across several priority sectors. These include defence procurement and the development of the defence industry, energy transition and renewable energy, infrastructure and transport, as well as education and the creative economy.
The Indonesian government has identified France as a key strategic partner in Europe, particularly in advancing long-term and sustainable cooperation.
Officials said the discussions aimed to expand collaboration into more concrete and mutually beneficial areas, reflecting both countries’ interest in deepening bilateral ties.
Follow-up to Moscow engagements
The visit to France follows Prabowo’s earlier meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on 13 April.
The meeting in Russia, which lasted approximately five hours, resulted in several agreements, particularly in the energy and mineral resources sector. According to Indonesian officials, the discussions included long-term cooperation on energy security, covering oil and gas as well as downstream development.
In addition to energy, both countries reaffirmed commitments to cooperation in education, research and technology, agriculture, and investment, with a focus on industrial development in Indonesia.
Broader diplomatic agenda
Prabowo’s visit to France represents a continuation of Indonesia’s high-level diplomatic engagements in Europe, following back-to-back meetings with major global partners.
Officials described the visit as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relationships and expand cooperation across sectors considered important for national development.
The sequence of engagements in Moscow and Paris reflects Indonesia’s continued diplomatic outreach with key international partners in both Europe and Eurasia.
