Prabowo heads to Moscow for talks with Putin on energy security and global geopolitical dynamics

Prabowo Subianto departed late on Sunday night, 12 April 2026, for Moscow on a state visit to meet Vladimir Putin, according to a statement from the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia.

The presidential aircraft, operated by national carrier Garuda Indonesia, departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base and is expected to arrive in Moscow on Monday morning local time after a non-stop flight of approximately 12 hours.
Upon arrival, President Prabowo is scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting with President Putin later that afternoon.
The talks are set to cover a range of strategic issues, including energy security and global geopolitics.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya described the meeting as “crucial” amid shifting global dynamics.
He stated that discussions would include efforts to maintain cooperation with the Russian government in ensuring a stable national energy supply, including oil availability.
On global geopolitical matters, Indonesia is expected to outline its strategic position in supporting international stability and peace.
President Prabowo is accompanied on the visit by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Photographs released by the Cabinet Secretariat showed that the President’s departure was seen off by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Head of the State Intelligence Agency M. Herindra, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
The visit marks President Prabowo’s third trip to Russia since taking office. He previously travelled to Moscow in December 2025 and to Saint Petersburg in June 2025. Prior to his inauguration, he also met President Putin in Moscow in July 2024 while serving as president-elect.
During his earlier visits, bilateral cooperation in the energy sector featured prominently. Indonesia and Russia reached agreements to collaborate on new and renewable energy development, as well as on nuclear technology initiatives.
