SINGAPORE: A banner featuring Lee Hong Chuang has drawn widespread attention online after a typographical error incorrectly labelled “Bukit Batok” as “Bukit Butok”.
The image, shared on Threads and Reddit, shows a greeting banner put up by the People’s Association.
It features Lee, who serves as adviser to Hong Kah North Grassroots Organisations.
The banner refers to Jurong East–Bukit Batok GRC but displays the constituency name incorrectly as “Jurong East–Bukit Butok GRC”.
The banner reportedly installed near Block 369 in Bukit Batok recently.

The typo quickly became a source of amusement among netizens.
Many mocked the error by joking about the creation of a “Bukit Butok” GRC.
Some users posted sarcastic variations of the misspelt name, further amplifying the ridicule.
Others questioned how such an obvious mistake passed through checks without being corrected.
Comments online highlighted concerns over proofreading standards and quality control in public communications.
Several netizens also used the incident to question the competence and credibility of those responsible for producing the banner.

The Online Citizen has contacted Lee Hong Chuang, the Hong Kah North Constituency Office, and Hong Kah North Community Club for clarification.
Queries include whether the typo had been identified and whether any corrective action would be taken.
Lee Hong Chuang, 55, contested Hougang SMC in 2015 and 2020 against the Workers' Party, which has held the seat since 1991.
He stepped down as PAP’s Hougang branch chair in October 2023.
Following electoral boundary changes ahead of GE2025, he moved to the newly formed Jurong East–Bukit Batok GRC.
There, he contested as part of PAP team led by Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment.
On 4 May, the PAP team won the GRC with 76.66% of the vote, defeating Red Dot United.
