MALAYSIA: A decomposed body of a man wrapped in canvas was discovered along the rocky shoreline of Pulau Angsa in Jeram, Selangor, prompting a murder investigation.

According to a report by BERNAMA, the body was found on 18 April after an angler alerted authorities at about 4.50 pm.

Police later confirmed that the package contained human remains wrapped in canvas and tied with rope.

Kuala Selangor district police chief Superintendent Azaharudin Tajudin said the angler was led to the location by the stench before contacting police, he said in a statement.

The remains were subsequently transported to the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Puncak Alam Hospital for examination.

Based on findings reported by New Straits Times, a post-mortem conducted at 9 am confirmed that the victim died from asphyxiation due to strangulation.

Police said the identity of the victim has not yet been established.

Murder investigation launched

Authorities have classified the case under Section 302 of Malaysia’s Penal Code, which covers murder offences.

Superintendent Azaharudin called on members of the public to assist with the investigation.

Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and to identify the victim.
