Malaysian police are investigating two separate deaths involving foreign nationals at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 on 1 May 2026.

The incidents, which occurred hours apart, are believed to be unrelated, according to KLIA police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Ravi.

Both cases have been classified as sudden death reports and remain under active investigation. Assistant Commissioner Ravi issued separate statements on 2 May addressing each incident following widespread circulation of footage on social media.

Chinese woman falls from Green Zone balcony

The first incident occurred at 2.20pm on 1 May. Assistant Commissioner Ravi said a 27-year-old Chinese national was observed sitting outside a balcony area at the Green Zone on Level 3 of KLIA Terminal 2, crying and "screaming aggressively."

Security personnel and airport staff attempted to calm the woman and a KLIA security officer moved to approach her. The woman struggled and jumped into the loading bay area below before she could be reached.

A medical team arrived at the scene and provided emergency care. The woman was subsequently transported to Putrajaya Hospital for further treatment, where she was pronounced dead at 5.09pm.

Investigations revealed that the woman had been scheduled to board a return flight to China on 2 May, the day after the incident. The cause of her fall remains under investigation.

Algerian man jumps from outer balcony in suspected suicide

The second incident took place at 9.10pm on the same evening. Assistant Commissioner Ravi said a 30-year-old Algerian man jumped from the outer balcony area on Level 3 of KLIA Terminal 2 in what police described as a suspected suicide attempt.

A witness reported seeing the man open his backpack before running towards a barrier and jumping over it. A medical team provided emergency treatment at the scene, and the man was taken to Cyberjaya Hospital for further care.

At 2.55am on 2 May, Cyberjaya Hospital confirmed that the man had died from his injuries.

Public urged not to speculate

Assistant Commissioner Ravi urged members of the public to refrain from speculating about either incident, citing concerns about the spread of misinformation. Both cases are being handled as sudden death reports by the KLIA District Police.

Those with information relevant to either incident are urged to contact the KLIA District Police Headquarters at 03-8776 8222.
