Convicted child sex offender Amos Yee, 27, was repeatedly assaulted by an attendee outside Doujin Market 2026, a Japanese animation fan convention held at Suntec City Convention Centre in Singapore on 9 May 2026.

Videos circulating on social media showed Yee crouching on the ground outside the convention hall as an attendee, dressed in a cosplay costume of Yuji Itadori — a character from the anime series Jujutsu Kaisen — delivered repeated punches and kicks in multiple bouts. Yee did not fight back at any point during the assault.

Of the onlookers who witnessed the incident, only two intervened. The remainder did not step in.

Yee later posted on the social media platform X with a photograph showing a bloodied upper lip. He said he had been advised to seek medical attention but could not afford the cost of treatment and left without receiving care.

Banned before arrival

Yee had publicly announced his intention to attend the event on X on 8 May, the day before the convention opened.

Doujin Market 2026 is a two-day event running from 9 to 10 May at Suntec City Convention Centre, with tickets sold through Eventbrite.

Following his announcement, the convention's organisers said they had received reports from the community and concerns raised by attendees about his planned attendance.

In response, they stated on Instagram that they had cancelled his tickets and were working to ban him from all their shows.

Despite this, Yee turned up at the venue on the morning of 9 May and was spotted by attendees.

He confirmed on X that he had been informed of his ban upon speaking with ticketing staff.

He nonetheless remained at or near the venue, and posted photographs and commentary about the convention atmosphere on X prior to the assault.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed in response to queries from Mothership that it received a call for assistance at approximately 2:15pm. Upon arrival, officers established that Yee had been assaulted by an 18-year-old male.

Mothership had earlier reported that the incident took place at around 12:30pm.

Yee was assessed to have sustained minor injuries. The 18-year-old was arrested for causing public nuisance.

Background

Yee is a Singaporean blogger/vlogger and online commentator who was convicted in the United States on child sex offence charges following his arrival there in 2017, when he was granted political asylum. He has remained a contentious figure and his public appearances, online and offline, have frequently drawn strong reactions.

Yee is also currently facing charges under the Enlistment Act for allegedly evading national service obligations. He was deported from the United States on 19 March 2026 and arrested upon arrival at Changi Airport on 20 March by Central Manpower Base enlistment inspectors.

He was charged the same day with three offences, including failing to report for pre-enlistment medical screening over a period of more than nine years and leaving Singapore without valid exit permits on two separate occasions. He was released on bail of S$10,000 on 26 March.

The case was most recently before the State Courts on 23 April 2026 for a pre-trial conference. A second pre-trial conference has been scheduled for 22 May 2026, with representations to the prosecution due by 14 May.
