SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong has been reappointed chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) board for another three-year term.

MAS announced on 12 May 2026 that Gan will serve from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2029. He was first appointed chairman in May 2024, succeeding then deputy prime minister Lawrence Wong.

Gan also serves as Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry.

New board appointment

MAS also announced the appointment of Ong Pang Thye as a board member for a three-year term beginning 1 June 2026 and ending 31 May 2029.

Ong is currently vice-chairman of the Singapore Business Federation and sits on the boards of Temasek, Singapore Power and MOH Holdings.

He previously served as managing partner at KPMG Singapore.

Welcoming the appointment, Gan said: “His experience in accounting and consulting work in a broad range of industries will be valuable to the MAS board as we navigate an increasingly complex and turbulent world.”

Board reappointments

The central bank and financial regulator also confirmed the reappointments of Chia Der Jiun and Attorney-General Lucien Wong to the board.

Chia will continue serving as managing director of MAS until 31 May 2028, while Lucien Wong’s term as board member will continue until 31 May 2029.

Separately, Chaly Mah, chairman of NetLink NBN Management, was reappointed to the MAS board for a final one-year term ending 31 May 2027.

MAS said Chaly was also reappointed chairman of the audit committee for the same duration.
