MALAYSIA: An 18-year-old electrical wiring worker was killed after a road crash involving a car and a van caused a roadside pole to collapse and pierce through the vehicle he was travelling in at Jalan Losong Feri in Kuala Terengganu on 19 May.
According to Malay Mail, the victim, identified as Wah Han Keong, was seated in the front passenger seat of a Nissan Vanette when the incident occurred at about 3.36 pm.
He suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crash involved Volkswagen Golf GTI
Kuala Terengganu police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said police received information about the crash at 4.12 pm.
According to Sinar Harian, preliminary investigations found that the crash involved a Volkswagen Golf GTI driven by a 43-year-old man and a Nissan Vanette.
Azli said the Volkswagen was travelling from Kuala Terengganu town towards Muzium Losong when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
“The vehicle is believed to have skidded before crashing into a Public Works Department (JKR) pole,” he said in a statement.
Vehicle veered into opposite lane
The Volkswagen then entered the opposite lane and collided with the van, which was travelling from Taman Manir towards Kuala Terengganu town.
The van was carrying Wah and his father at the time of the collision.
Azli said the impact caused the JKR pole to collapse and pierce into the van, striking the victim in the head.
“The victim suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.
The victim’s body was later sent to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) for a post-mortem examination.
Police investigation ongoing
Police said the Volkswagen was carrying five family members during the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Dashcam footage of the crash later circulated widely on social media, prompting condolences and expressions of sympathy from netizens over the victim’s death.
