Israeli envoy and UN official clash at New York hearing over reports listing Israel for abuses against Palestinians
Israel's UN ambassador Danny Danon and UN official Vanessa Frazier became embroiled in a shouting match in New York on 19 June 2026, after Danon condemned two UN reports listing Israel over alleged sexual violence and grave violations against Palestinian children.

A public hearing at the United Nations in New York descended into a furious exchange on Friday, 19 June 2026, when Israel's ambassador and a senior UN official clashed openly over two reports listing Israel for alleged abuses against Palestinians.
The confrontation occurred at a meeting marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. Israel's envoy, Danny Danon, demanded the resignation of Pramila Patten, the UN special representative on conflict-related sexual violence.
Danon accused Patten of bias after her report listed Israel for such alleged abuses for the first time. He directed his criticism at the broader UN leadership, framing the report as part of a wider institutional approach towards Israel.
"You caved to the Secretary-General's obsession with targeting Israel," Danon said, referring to UN chief Antonio Guterres.
A second UN official, Vanessa Frazier, then intervened. Frazier serves as Guterres' special representative for children and armed conflict and compiled a separate report that also lists Israel.
Frazier interrupted by raising a point of order. She demanded that Danon refrain from personal attacks, and stated that she had verified evidence to support her findings.
Danon responded by telling Frazier to be quiet. "We are a member state, and you work for the UN, and you will be quiet now. You will be quiet... you and your shameful report," he said.
Frazier, who previously served as Malta's ambassador to the United Nations, issued her report this week on behalf of Guterres. It warned that Israeli settler groups could be added to a global blacklist for violations against children.
The report came as Guterres voiced alarm at what he described as a staggering rise in violations against Palestinian children. Israel itself already features in the report's list of shame annexes for alleged violations.
When Patten's report was issued in May 2026, Danon described it as a new low. Israel's Foreign Ministry subsequently vowed to sever all ties with Guterres, who leaves office at the end of the year after a decade in the role.
Both reports also list Israel's adversary, Hamas, the group responsible for the attack on Israel of 7 October 2023.
Background
The clash reflects deepening friction between Israel and parts of the UN system over the conduct of operations in Gaza and the West Bank since October 2023.
Earlier this year, on 24 March 2026, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese presented a separate report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva accusing Israel of systematically torturing Palestinians. Israel dismissed those findings as a politically charged activist rant.
That report documented more than 18,500 Palestinian arrests since October 2023, between 84 and 94 deaths in detention, and more than 4,000 enforced disappearances. It also recommended that the International Criminal Court seek arrest warrants for senior Israeli ministers.
Israel has consistently rejected such findings as biased and politically motivated, while UN officials have maintained that their reports rest on verified evidence and documented testimony.
