Man arrested after being seen holding two hacksaws at Bukit Batok carpark

A 46-year-old man was arrested after being seen holding two hacksaws at an open carpark in Bukit Batok on 18 May night.

Police said they received a call for assistance at about 9.10 pm near Bukit Batok Street 31, where officers found the man at the scene holding the items.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said officers assessed that the man posed a potential risk of serious harm to himself or others.

Officers drew their tasers and issued verbal commands instructing the man to drop the hacksaws.

The man complied after a brief moment of hesitation and was subsequently arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.

Police response at scene

In a video circulating on TikTok on 20 May, four police officers can be seen confronting a man dressed in a black long-sleeved shirt and jeans at the carpark.

Red laser sights appear to be trained on him as one officer holds a riot shield, while police vehicles are seen parked nearby.

The footage shows the man eventually squatting down and complying with officers’ instructions before being detained.

SPF said no injuries were reported following the incident.

The Straits Times reported that officers from the Special Operations Command were among those deployed to the scene as a precautionary measure during the incident.

Authorities have not indicated any further charges at this stage, and investigations are ongoing.
