SINGAPORE: Seven girls aged between 12 and 17 have been arrested for rioting after allegedly attacking a 14-year-old girl at an Orchard Road carpark, in an incident that reportedly left the teenager hospitalised for nine days.
The alleged assault took place at about 10pm on 3 May 2026 at the 11th-floor carpark of a shopping mall along Orchard Road, according to Chinese-language daily Shin Min Daily News.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Alleged attack at Orchard Road carpark
According to Shin Min, the 14-year-old victim had arranged to meet friends for a meal before she was allegedly lured to the carpark, where she was ambushed by at least seven girls.
Her mother told the newspaper that four of the alleged attackers were people her daughter had met online.
The victim was reportedly surrounded and assaulted for about 40 minutes.
Videos circulating online appear to show the teenager being kicked and punched while lying on the ground.
In one video, a girl can allegedly be seen grabbing the victim by her collar and repeatedly punching her in the head after she had already fallen to the ground.
The teenager appeared largely unable to defend herself during the attack.
Mother recounts daughter's injuries
According to the girl's mother, the assault only stopped after repeated blows to her daughter's head prompted the attackers to check on her condition.
The group then allegedly fled the scene.
After escaping, the teenager reportedly made her way to The Centrepoint along Orchard Road before travelling to her grandmother's home.
She later contacted her mother to inform her of what had happened.
The mother said police officers and paramedics arrived at the grandmother's residence shortly after a report was made.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it conveyed one person to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
The girl's mother described extensive injuries suffered by her daughter.
She said the teenager was admitted with swelling and bruising on her face, swelling and ringing in her ears, bleeding from her nose, blood clots around her eyes and a lump on her head.
The victim also suffered bruises across multiple parts of her body, while shoe prints were allegedly found on her clothing.
Hospitalisation and recovery
The teenager remained in hospital for nine days following the incident, according to her mother.
She is reportedly continuing to receive medical treatment and counselling.
The mother said injuries to her daughter's head and ears have affected her memory of parts of the incident.
She also described a significant emotional and psychological impact on the teenager.
“Whenever my daughter recalls this terrible experience, her emotions fluctuate greatly and she even experiences stomach discomfort,” she was quoted as saying.
“To help her recover, we recently arranged a short family trip in the hope that she can gradually move past the trauma.”
The mother added that neither the girls allegedly involved in the incident nor their families had apologised to her daughter.
The police and SCDF told Shin Min that they received a call for assistance in Bedok Reservoir Road at about 11.25pm on 3 May.
The SCDF confirmed that one person was taken to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
The police said seven girls, aged between 12 and 17, were subsequently arrested for rioting.
