Two pilots killed after business jet crashes during emergency return in Dominican Republic
Two pilots were killed after a private Gulfstream G200 business jet crashed while attempting an emergency return to La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic. The aircraft had reported mechanical problems shortly after takeoff and was bound for Austin, Texas.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Two pilots were killed after a private Gulfstream G200 business jet crashed while attempting an emergency return to La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic on Sunday (7 June 2026).
According to preliminary information released by aviation authorities, the aircraft had departed from La Romana and was en route to Austin, Texas, when the crew reported technical problems and declared an emergency.
The pilot and co-pilot were the only occupants onboard the aircraft. No passengers were travelling on the flight.
Mechanical problems reported after takeoff
According to Dominican Today, the crew reported mechanical issues shortly after departure and initiated a return to the airport for an emergency landing.
The aircraft was approximately 16 nautical miles southwest of La Romana when the emergency was declared.
It subsequently turned back toward the airport but crashed before the emergency landing could be completed.
Emergency response launched
The aircraft involved was identified as a private Gulfstream G200 business jet registered as N318JF.
Thick black smoke was reported rising from the crash site as airport rescue and firefighting teams responded to contain the blaze and secure the area.
Emergency personnel, airport security officers and aviation authorities were deployed to the scene as response operations continued.
Investigation underway
The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Preliminary flight-tracking data indicated that the aircraft conducted manoeuvres near La Romana before proceeding back toward the airport, although authorities have not officially confirmed the aircraft's final movements.
Officials have not yet released details on what caused the reported mechanical failure.
