Man hospitalised after car plunges into university pool following dispute over rent in Bangkok
A 29-year-old man was taken to hospital after his car plunged into a pool on the Chulalongkorn University campus in Bangkok on Thursday morning, following an alleged dispute with his mother over monthly condominium rent of 27,000 baht (about US$760). Police said the driver was rescued from the submerged vehicle and investigations are ongoing, including into his state of mind.

THAILAND: A 29-year-old man was hospitalised after his car plunged into a pool on the Chulalongkorn University campus in Bangkok in the early hours of Thursday (18 June 2026).
Police from Pathumwan station were alerted at about 5.45 am after reports of a vehicle submerged in water on campus grounds.
Emergency responders rescued the driver, who was the sole occupant, and transported him to hospital.
Dispute over rent preceded incident
Initial police findings indicated the incident followed a dispute between the man and his mother over financial support for condominium rent.
Authorities said the disagreement involved a monthly payment of 27,000 baht (approximately US$760), which the mother reportedly refused to cover.
The situation allegedly left the man stressed and frustrated before he drove onto university grounds.
Car breached barrier before entering water
Police said the man entered the campus area and drove towards the pool despite attempts by security personnel to intervene.
He reportedly accelerated through a barrier fence before the vehicle entered the water.
Investigation ongoing
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the driver’s condition and possible motivations.
