SINGAPORE: Tim Ho Wan will permanently close its Plaza Singapura restaurant after 12 July 2026, bringing an end to the dim sum chain’s first Singapore outlet following a 13-year presence at the shopping centre.

In a Facebook post published on 18 June 2026, the company announced that the closure was part of Plaza Singapura’s redevelopment plans and expressed gratitude to customers who had supported the outlet since its opening.

“After 13 wonderful years, Tim Ho Wan will be saying goodbye to our very first home in Singapore — Plaza Singapura,” the post said.

The company added that the restaurant had been “filled with cherished memories, family gatherings, and countless dim sum moments shared with all of you”, describing the decision as one that was “not easy” while thanking diners for their loyalty over the years.

Other outlets remain open

Tim Ho Wan clarified that only the Plaza Singapura branch would cease operations. Its other Singapore restaurants, including those at Great World City, Westgate, Tampines 1, Jewel Changi Airport and Marina Bay Sands, will continue operating.

The Plaza Singapura outlet opened in April 2013 and marked the Hong Kong brand’s first expansion outside its home market, introducing its Michelin-recognised Cantonese dim sum to Singapore customers.

Founded by chefs Mak Kwai Pui and Leung Fai Keung, Tim Ho Wan first opened in Hong Kong’s Mong Kok district in March 2009.

The modest 20-seat restaurant quickly gained international attention for serving relatively affordable Cantonese dim sum, with signature dishes including baked barbecue pork buns, steamed rice rolls, pan-fried carrot cake and steamed egg cake.

Just a year after opening, the original outlet was awarded a Michelin star in 2010, helping elevate the brand’s global profile.

Since establishing its Singapore presence, Tim Ho Wan has expanded through outlets and franchises across markets including Japan, China, South Korea, the Philippines and the United States.

To commemorate the end of its 13-year run at Plaza Singapura, Tim Ho Wan will host a “Nostalgic Farewell Celebration” on 12 July 2026.

The event will feature free-flow dim sum and beverages, live music performances and craft activities for guests. Attendees will also receive goodie bags containing Tim Ho Wan merchandise and S$30 worth of dining vouchers.
