PPP names William Lim Lian Chin secretary-general as Sim, Goh step down
People's Power Party has elected William Lim Lian Chin as secretary-general in a Central Executive Committee renewal, with former chairman Derrick Sim and former secretary-general Goh Meng Seng both stepping down. Its official website has separately been under foreign ownership since a January 2026 domain lapse.

The People's Power Party (PPP) has appointed William Lim Lian Chin as its new secretary-general, following what its Central Executive Committee (CEC) called a "CEC renewal plan" announced on Monday, 6 July 2026.
In a Facebook post published late Monday afternoon, the CEC said former chairman Derrick Sim and former secretary-general Goh Meng Seng had both "decided to step down from their posts and CEC".
The party thanked Sim and Goh "with great gratitude" for their past contributions and leadership. It added that, under its new leadership, PPP would continue providing Singaporeans "a Real Voice of Truthful Concerns" and contribute to the development of democracy in Singapore.
Notably, the statement did not include a full list of CEC members, nor did it name a successor to Sim as chairman. Who now holds that position, if anyone, remains unclear.
Background to the resignations
Sim first announced his departure in a Facebook post on Thursday, 2 July 2026, saying he was stepping down from all positions in PPP, including chairman and CEC member, in the aftermath of the party's General Election (GE) 2025 results.
He described the decision as a matter of "personal responsibility" for what he called disappointing electoral outcomes. Sim said he had remained in office after the election only to ensure the party's accounts and administrative matters were "properly documented, audited, and handed over in good order".
Responding to Sim's post at the time, Goh said he would issue a further statement regarding Sim's departure. Monday's CEC announcement, however, revealed that Goh himself had also stepped down as secretary-general, without elaborating on his own reasons for doing so.
GE2025 performance
Sim and Goh had jointly contested Tampines Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in a four-cornered fight during GE2025. The People's Action Party (PAP) retained the seat with 52.02 per cent of the vote, down from 66.41 per cent in 2020, while the Workers' Party (WP) polled 47.37 per cent.
The National Solidarity Party (NSP) and PPP received 0.18 per cent and 0.43 per cent of the vote respectively. Both parties failed to cross the 12.5 per cent threshold required to retain their election deposits, forfeiting S$67,500 each.
Who is William Lim Lian Chin
Lim, 47, previously served as PPP's treasurer and was introduced by Goh in April 2025 as team leader for the party's planned contest of Ang Mo Kio GRC ahead of GE2025, according to a report by Mothership.
A profile page hosted on peoplespowerparty.sg states that Lim holds a Bachelor of Business degree in economics and finance, and began his career as a taxi driver in 2011 before moving into private-hire driving.
It adds that he founded Singapore Taxi Driver, a Facebook group for drivers with more than 21,000 members, where he has been recognised as an unofficial industry leader offering mentorship and free courses to help drivers raise their income. This detail could not be independently verified through a party channel, for reasons explained below.
PPP's website no longer under the party's control
Readers searching for further details on PPP's leadership are likely to land on peoplespowerparty.sg, which continues to publish material on the party's history and leadership. However, the domain has not been run by PPP since January 2026.
The site had been under maintenance from May 2025, weeks after GE2025, with a party spokesperson saying then that it was being revamped. Its registration lapsed on 20 January 2026 after PPP did not act on renewal reminders sent by the Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) between September and November 2025.
The domain was registered the following day, 21 January 2026, by Targa Ltd, a foreign entity, through a reseller under registrar Web Commerce Communications. A Beng Huat Tan was subsequently added as the site's administrator on 24 February 2026.
The revamped site now carries a disclaimer stating it is not PPP's official website and is intended to document the party's background for "educational purposes".
Goh, then still secretary-general, confirmed on 20 February 2026 that the site was run by an entity unknown to and unaffiliated with the party, saying: "We do not know who it is. We cannot prevent them from posting what they want. But if they do post anything wrong, we will sue."
Goh said he preferred to use Facebook as the party's main channel of communication with supporters, though he added that the site's content appeared accurate at the time. It is not clear whether it has been updated to reflect Monday's CEC changes.
What remains unanswered
Monday's statement leaves several questions open, including who will take over as chairman and which individuals now make up the CEC. PPP has not indicated when, or whether, it plans to release further details on its new leadership structure.
With peoplespowerparty.sg no longer under the party's control, and Goh having named Facebook as the party's preferred channel, its official Facebook page currently stands as the primary source for confirmation of these details.
