SINGAPORE: A 61-year-old Singaporean woman has been found guilty of repeatedly harassing her neighbour at a Housing and Development Board block in Bedok, despite a protection order barring her from such conduct.

Sarjeet Kaur d/o Swarn Chand was convicted on 21 January 2026 after a three-day trial, having claimed trial to six charges including intentional hurt, reckless conduct endangering life and breaches under the Prevention of Harassment Act.

The offences stemmed from a series of incidents involving verbal abuse, physical aggression and property damage directed at her neighbour, who lived in the same block along Bedok South Road.

According to court documents, the victim had obtained a Protection from Harassment Protection Order against Sarjeet on 8 November 2022, following earlier alleged acts of harassment.

Despite the order, Sarjeet was found to have shouted vulgarities at the neighbour on 16 August 2023.

The insults included phrases such as “you bastard”, “bloody f*cking bastard” and “china bastard lady”.

The court heard that the verbal abuse took place at the common corridor area of the block, in full view of the victim’s residence.

On the same day, Sarjeet was also found to have swung a plastic bottle and a broom towards the victim in an aggressive manner.

In one incident, she struck the victim’s left hand with a plastic container, causing injury.

The charge of intentional hurt related specifically to this act.

Sarjeet was further accused of smashing several flower pots and a trolley that the victim had placed outside her flat. These items were damaged during the confrontation.

The prosecution also highlighted an earlier incident that occurred just three days before, on 13 August 2023, when Sarjeet allegedly struck the neighbour’s window with a broom.

This earlier act was cited as part of a pattern of harassment, showing repeated disregard for the existing protection order.

During the trial, prosecutors said the victim was able to identify Sarjeet as the perpetrator based on her voice, which she recognised from previous encounters, according to a report by Shin Min Daily News.

The prosecution added that Sarjeet admitted to throwing the flower pots during questioning by authorities the day after the incident.

She also repeated this admission in a subsequent statement recorded on 5 December 2023, the court was told.

In her defence, Sarjeet denied several of the allegations, leading to a full trial that spanned three days and included testimony from both parties.

After considering the evidence, the judge found Sarjeet guilty on all six charges, accepting the prosecution’s account of events and the credibility of the victim’s identification.

In delivering the verdict, the court noted the seriousness of breaching a protection order, which is intended to shield victims from continued harassment and escalation.

Following the conviction, the judge ordered a Mandatory Treatment Order suitability report to assess Sarjeet’s mental condition.

The report will help the court determine whether compulsory psychiatric treatment would be appropriate as part of sentencing.

The case was adjourned to 27 February 2026 for sentencing, pending the outcome of the assessment.

Sarjeet is currently out on bail of S$10,000 while awaiting the sentencing hearing.
