SINGAPORE: The National Parks Board (NParks) is investigating after two French bulldogs were allegedly transported in unsuitable conditions from a pet daycare facility, leading to signs of severe heat stress.

The four-year-old dogs, Kreon and Gobu, showed symptoms of heat stress on the evening of 6 March 2026 after returning home from Adventure Tails, a pet daycare facility located in Neo Tiew Lane.

According to the dogs’ owner Eugene Tan, the animals had been transported in a van driven by an employee from transport firm Pyro Logistics before being dropped off near his Serangoon home.

Tan said he collected the dogs from the van at about 6.45pm.

One dog unresponsive, rushed for emergency treatment

Upon opening the crate, Tan said Gobu appeared distressed but responsive and quickly jumped out while panting heavily.

Kreon, however, was reportedly found lying on his stomach inside the crate, panting heavily but unresponsive.

Tan said both dogs had visibly red and bleeding lips and tongues, and their bodies were damp when they were discovered. Their leashes were also still attached.

He immediately brought both dogs to Westside Emergency Vet Clinic for urgent medical care.

Veterinarians warn of severe heat stroke

According to Tan, veterinarians assessed Kreon as being in critical condition due to severe heat stroke.

He said doctors informed the family that the dog’s chances of survival were low and asked them to consider issuing a do-not-resuscitate order.

Tan added that Kreon experienced a mild seizure and that blood tests showed low glucose levels and a reduced platelet count.

Veterinarians also warned that even if the dog survived cardiopulmonary resuscitation following cardiac arrest, significant long-term health complications could still occur.

Meanwhile, Gobu continued displaying symptoms of heat stress, including a purple tongue and difficulty walking steadily.

Brachycephalic breeds face higher heat risk

French bulldogs are classified as brachycephalic dog breeds, meaning they have shortened airways.

Veterinary experts note that such breeds, which include pugs, are particularly vulnerable to heat stroke because their breathing structure makes it harder for them to regulate body temperature.

The dogs’ condition drew attention online after a video of the incident was posted on Instagram on 10 March 2026.

The clip shows Kreon appearing unresponsive as he is removed from the crate before later receiving treatment at a veterinary clinic.

Authorities investigating case

NParks confirmed in a statement on 11 March that it had received feedback regarding the incident and that investigations are ongoing.

Tan said representatives from both Adventure Tails and Pyro Logistics visited the veterinary clinic after learning about the dogs’ condition.

He added that they apologised for the incident and offered to cover the medical expenses.

While Gobu was discharged the following day, Kreon only began showing signs of improvement on 9 March 2026 and was discharged on 12 March 2026.

Daycare ends logistics partnership

In a Facebook statement issued on 8 March 2026, Adventure Tails expressed sorrow over the incident and said it hoped for Kreon’s recovery.

The company stated that the safety and wellbeing of dogs entrusted to its care had always been its highest priority.

Following an internal review, the daycare terminated its engagement with Pyro Logistics.

It also announced plans to improve transport arrangements, including the use of vehicles equipped with dedicated rear air-conditioning systems.

Online reaction and calls for accountability

The incident has sparked widespread discussion among pet owners and animal welfare advocates online.

Many expressed concern and well wishes for Kreon’s recovery, while others criticised the alleged transport conditions and questioned the safety of long van journeys for pets.

Some also called for greater transparency and accountability, arguing that responsibility ultimately lies with the daycare entrusted with the animals.
