One person has died and another was transported to hospital after a fire broke out in a residential flat in Choa Chu Kang during the early hours of 19 March 2026.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at approximately 3am.

The blaze occurred within a bedroom of a unit situated on the 14th floor of Block 763 Choa Chu Kang North 5.

SCDF officers deployed two water jets to extinguish the flames. During the operation, a person was discovered inside the affected unit.

An SCDF paramedic pronounced the individual dead at the scene.

Another occupant of the unit, who had successfully evacuated before the arrival of emergency services, was assessed for smoke inhalation. That individual was subsequently taken to Singapore General Hospital for treatment.

Two additional residents from the same block were also assessed for smoke inhalation by medical personnel.

Both individuals declined further medical conveyance to the hospital.

As a precautionary measure, the police and SCDF coordinated the evacuation of approximately 70 residents from the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Six fire fatalities in 2025

According to the data released by the SCDF on 11 February regarding annual fire statistics, the organisation responded to 2,050 fire calls in 2025.

This represented an increase of 60 calls, or 3 per cent, compared to the figures recorded in 2024. Residential fires accounted for 1,051 of those attendances in 2025.

The residential fire figure for 2025 marked an 8.6 per cent increase over the previous year. Statistics from 2025 further revealed there were 94 fire-related injuries and six fatalities. SCDF defines such fatalities as deaths resulting from burns, smoke inhalation, or both, while any fatality currently pending investigation is excluded from its annual statistical releases.
