Kedah tragedy: Parents found slain in Merbok home; suspect son also found dead

MALAYSIA: A foul smell emanating from a house in Kampung Belau, Merbok in Sungai Petani, Kedah, led to the discovery of three bodies, in a case now being investigated as homicide.
According to The Star, members of the public alerted authorities after noticing that the occupants had not been seen for several days and detecting a strong odour from the property.
Kuala Muda police chief Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan said officers forced entry into the house after finding it locked from the inside.
“Upon inspection, the house was dark, the smell was strong and the door was locked from the inside,” he said at a press conference at the Merbok police station, as reported by Bernama.
Victims identified as family members
Police identified the victims as Zikri Abdul Rahman, 65, and his wife Suraya Man, 53.
Their 29-year-old son, Muhammad Shakir Zufayri Abdul Aziz, was discovered in an upstairs bedroom.
Based on reporting by Free Malaysia Today on 26 March, the bodies of the husband and wife were found in the kitchen, wrapped in a carpet and cloth.
Details of injuries and scene
According to Free Malaysia Today, the couple were found with severe injuries, including dismemberment, which police believe may have been an attempt to dispose of the remains.
The son was found with slash wounds to his neck.
Several sharp weapons were recovered from a container near his body.
Police said the condition of the bodies indicated that the couple had been dead for more than 48 hours prior to discovery, with visible signs of decomposition.
The son is believed to have died more recently.
Investigation points to homicide
Initial investigations indicate the case is a homicide, with police identifying the 29-year-old as the suspected perpetrator.
Investigators believe the incident may have occurred between Monday (23 Mar) and the time the bodies were discovered on Wednesday (25 Mar) night.
Police also noted that the suspect had a history of mental health issues between 2018 and 2019, though he was not previously known to have caused disturbances in the neighbourhood.
Further enquiries underway
Authorities confirmed that five witnesses have been called to assist with investigations.
The bodies have been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
As investigations continue, authorities have not released further details on the circumstances leading up to the deaths.
