Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Air New Zealand will significantly expand their joint network between New Zealand and Singapore from late October 2026, adding capacity on Auckland routes and launching new Christchurch services to meet growing travel demand across Asia and Europe.

The expansion comes as airlines outside the Middle East continue rerouting flights between Asia and Europe away from major regional hubs due to severe disruption caused by the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.

Under the expanded alliance schedule for the Northern Winter 2026 season, overall seat capacity between Singapore and New Zealand will increase by 17%, adding 72,000 seats and bringing the total to more than 490,000 seats.

According to joint press releases issued by Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand will launch three weekly non-stop services between Singapore and Christchurch using Boeing 787 aircraft during the Northern Winter season running from 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027.

Combined with Singapore Airlines’ existing Christchurch operations of up to 12 weekly services, the two carriers will operate 15 weekly flights during peak travel months from November 2026 to February 2027.

The airlines said the expanded services reflected their “firm commitment” to meet growing travel demand between New Zealand and Singapore, as well as onward travel demand across Asia, India and Europe.

Customers would also benefit from “more seamless connectivity, greater flexibility, and premium travel options across the joint network”, the carriers said.

Auckland capacity increase

Air New Zealand will also add four weekly Auckland services using Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft.

Singapore Airlines, meanwhile, will reduce its Singapore-Auckland schedule from three daily flights to two daily services, while deploying the Airbus A380 on services SQ285 and SQ286 instead of the Boeing 777-300ER during the Northern Winter season.

The airline said the A380 deployment would increase passenger comfort and support growing demand on the route.

SIA’s Airbus A380 features 471 seats across four cabin classes, including six Suites seats, 78 Business Class seats, 44 Premium Economy seats and 343 Economy Class seats.

Airline executives highlight partnership

Air New Zealand Chief Operations and Alliances Officer Michael Williams said the expansion demonstrated the strength of the airline’s partnership with Singapore Airlines.

“Our partnership with Singapore Airlines plays a critical role in connecting the world to New Zealand and vice versa,” Williams said in the Air New Zealand media release.

“This Northern Winter expansion gives our customers even more travel options, whether they are visiting New Zealand for business, leisure, or to reconnect with friends and family.”

Williams added that Singapore’s position as a global aviation hub enabled travellers from South East Asia, India, the United Kingdom and Europe to access New Zealand more easily through the joint network.

“The introduction of Air New Zealand’s Christchurch services is especially exciting because it creates more options for visitors to access some of New Zealand’s most popular destinations in the South Island, while remaining fully connected into Singapore Airlines’ extensive global network,” he said.

Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Marketing Planning Dai Haoyu said the partnership continued to support strong travel demand between the two countries and beyond.

“The deployment of the Airbus A380, with its greater seat capacity and enhanced travel experience, to Auckland, reflects our commitment to this important market,” Dai said in the Singapore Airlines press release.

“This complements the additional capacity that Air New Zealand is adding to bolster our joint network.”

The airlines said flights under the expanded Northern Winter schedule are already available for booking, with services scheduled to begin from the end of October 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
