Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has invited Singaporean investors to participate in a series of major transport and urban development projects, including Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) schemes and the planned expansion of the capital's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network.

The investment opportunities were presented during a meeting between Governor Pramono and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singapore on 15 June.

The discussions formed part of broader efforts to strengthen economic cooperation and support sustainable urban development between Jakarta and Singapore, two of Southeast Asia’s leading economic centres.

According to Pramono, Jakarta is opening opportunities for stronger Singaporean participation in a number of strategic projects, including TOD developments designed to integrate residential, commercial and office districts with public transport infrastructure.

The governor also highlighted opportunities in MRT Jakarta Phase 3 and Phase 4, which are expected to become key components of the city's future transport network. Phase 3 is planned as an 84-kilometre line linking Cikarang in the east with Balaraja in the west, while Phase 4 is proposed as a 12-kilometre urban loop connecting Fatmawati and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

In addition to transport infrastructure, Pramono offered investment opportunities in wider urban transformation programmes aimed at supporting Jakarta’s ambition to develop into a global city.

“Investing in Jakarta today means gaining access to one of the largest markets in Southeast Asia,” Pramono said during the meeting.

He added that increased investment in Jakarta would contribute not only to Indonesia’s economic growth but also to the wider regional economy.

“Investment flows into Jakarta will contribute to Indonesia’s growth, strengthen the ASEAN economy, and create added value for regional partners, including Singapore,” he said.

The meeting also reaffirmed the long-standing professional relationship between Pramono and Wong, which dates back to their respective roles in national government. Before becoming governor, Pramono served as Cabinet Secretary of Indonesia, while Wong held several senior positions within the Singapore Government.

Pramono said his experience in national government has enabled him to bridge policymaking at the national level with implementation at the regional level, helping to provide greater certainty for investors.

“My experience serving as Cabinet Secretary for two terms and now as Governor of Jakarta enables me to bridge national policy with its implementation at the regional level. This is important in providing certainty and confidence for investors,” he said.

The governor also reiterated the Jakarta administration’s commitment to creating a business environment that is transparent, efficient and predictable. He described policy certainty as a key factor in building investor confidence and attracting long-term investment.

“We want Singaporean businesses to know that Jakarta is committed to making investment easier, with clear regulations, efficient processes and consistent policies,” Pramono said.

“I believe the trust and collaboration we have strengthened today will lead us to shared success.”

The meeting comes as Jakarta continues to pursue large-scale infrastructure and urban renewal projects aimed at improving connectivity, supporting economic growth and enhancing the city’s competitiveness within the region.
