Former Progress Singapore Party (PSP) central executive committee (CEC) member Stephanie Tan has left the opposition party, saying differences in opinion over its direction prompted her decision.

In a Facebook post published on 6 July 2026, Tan said her objective in entering politics had always been to contribute to "greater vibrancy and discussions on important issues which matter to Singaporeans".

Tan said she joined the Progress Singapore Party as a volunteer in August 2023, marking the beginning of her political journey.

Describing her experience as fulfilling, she said she remained hopeful of continuing to contribute to Singapore but added that it would no longer be through PSP.

"It has been such a fulfilling journey and while I remain hopeful to continue contributing to Singapore, it will no longer be through PSP due to differences in opinion in the direction of the Party," she wrote.

She did not elaborate on the differences that led to her departure.

Tan expressed gratitude to PSP volunteers and members, both past and present, for supporting and guiding her throughout the past three years.

She also thanked residents, voters and campaign volunteers who supported her during the 2025 General Election.

"For all who had trusted in me as a candidate for Pioneer SMC in GE2025, whether as a voter or as a volunteer who came to fight alongside my team in the General Elections, thank you for your support, love and encouragement," she said.

Tan also thanked PSP founder Dr Tan Cheng Bock for respecting her decision to leave the party.

"Thank you for understanding and for respecting my decision. Thank you for inspiring me to do good work and encouraging me until this day. "

"You set the example not just by what you say, but by what you do, even when no one is looking," she wrote.

Tan said she would take time to consider her future plans while remaining committed to the principles that motivated her to enter politics.

"Thank you all for having been on this journey with me thus far. I will be taking some time to evaluate my next steps. "

"It is important to me that I remain true to my original purpose and I'm excited to find out what lies ahead," she said.

Tan contested Pioneer SMC as the PSP candidate in GE2025.

The constituency was won by the People's Action Party's Patrick Tay, who secured 65.42 per cent of the vote.

Tan received 34.58 per cent.

In July 2025, Tan was co-opted into PSP's CEC as part of the party's leadership renewal, which also saw founder Dr Tan Cheng Bock step down as party chairman.
